Thirty-one-year-old J.D. Vance believes that he hasn't achieved anything great and the idea of any stranger paying money for his memoir is weird. He grew up amidst poverty, with one of his parents facing the curse of addiction all the time. Vance was raised by his grandparents, who did not even graduate from high school.
