このコンテンツについて

From the world’s leading thinker on innovation and New York Times bestselling author of The Innovator’s Dilemma, Clayton M. Christensen, comes an unconventional book of inspiration and wisdom for achieving a fulfilling life. Christensen’s The Innovator’s Dilemma, notably the only business book that Apple’s Steve Jobs said “deeply influenced” him, is widely recognized as one of the most significant business books ever published. Now, in the tradition of Randy Pausch’s The Last Lecture and Anna Quindlen’s A Short Guide to a Happy Life, Christensen’s How Will You Measure Your Life is with a book of lucid observations and penetrating insights designed to help any reader—student or teacher, mid-career professional or retiree, parent or child—forge their own paths to fulfillment. マネジメント・リーダーシップ メンタリング・コーチング 個人的成功 出世 自己啓発

This is an absolutely great book written by Clayton Christensen, a Harvard Business School professor. Despite his outstanding track record in academia, he mentions that thinking fully about what matters to you is more useful in your life than any business strategy theories.

He also points out that people tend to overvalue ‘what bears fruit in the short term’. Taking time to take care of your small children doesn’t cause immediate impact, but your six-month intensive work in the office can be rewarded by a promotion or a higher salary. He warns that if you continue to seek what excites you in the short term, you might risk a relationship with someone who matters to you most.

As a Japanese person living across the big ocean from the U.S., I truly believe his message has universal value. In this country, life-time employment and karoshi are still real. I wish many Japanese businessmen read this book, too, and ask themselves ‘how will you measure your life?’.

Insightful and inspiring
