About the Author
Martine Jane Roberts is a British author whose love of historical romance has inspired a growing collection of novels set in the elegant and captivating world of the Regency era.
Born in 1957, Martine has lived all her life in the small market town of Tring, Hertfordshire. Her love of writing began at school, where she enjoyed creating short stories and essays—a passion that has remained with her throughout her life.
A lifelong admirer of Jane Austen, Martine has always been fascinated by the wit, romance and social intrigues of Austen’s world. Her own novels are inspired by that enduring love of the Regency period and, in particular, by the much-loved characters of Fitzwilliam Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet.
Her writing journey began with Mr Darcy’s Struggle, written to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the publication of Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice in 1813. Since then, Martine has continued to delight readers with a succession of Regency romances, including Mr Darcy's Struggle, To Love Mr Darcy, Mr Darcy’s Proposal, A Love Most Ardent, Mr Darcy’s Reluctant Wife, and Mr Darcy's Runaway.
In her latest novel, Martine has taken a step away from the Pride & Prejudice family with The Duke's Redemption, which is still set in the Regency era.
Each of Martine’s books is a stand-alone story, offering a fresh scenario, new challenges and unexpected twists, while retaining the romance, humour and spirited wit that readers have come to expect from her work.
In 2018, Mr Darcy’s Proposal was voted Book Cover of the Year, following its nomination and selection by the public.
Away from writing, Martine is a devoted mother and grandmother. She is also known for her charity work, poetry, strong family values and lifelong faith.
Martine hopes her novels will transport readers back to a world of country estates, glittering ballrooms, whispered secrets and, above all, the enduring promise of love.
