Two NYPD detectives get involved in a murder case that turns out to be the strangest case that Lt. Stevens and Lt. Rizzo ever tried to solve. There is a romance between Lt. Clancy and a woman named Susan Roselle who happens to be Lt. Rizzo's cousins. The case takes the three of them on a strange chase above and below the city of New York.

This is the story of Sam Ryan and his move to his new office in North Hollywood and his first case in California. His first case deals with a woman who has been reported missing by her husband for over 20 years. She began as an actress who got her chance to start in the movies in 1958. She was involved in a scandal back then. It made the headlines, and she had to go into hiding without telling her husband.

Sam Ryan, New York-based private eye/actor, is heading to California for the reading of his Uncle Hobart’s will. On the train, he meets a model named Marilyn Williams who is on her way back to LA with one stop off in Denver for a photo shoot. Sam is introduced to her by the waiter in the dining car. They have lunch and Sam tells her he is a P.I./actor. She wants to hire him for a case. Before she can tell him what it is all about, she is found dead in her compartment and Sam is the number-one suspect by the Denver Police.
