Darkness. Blackness. Pain. A searing pain burned deep within his core—something so painful being stabbed in the chest could never compare. It was blinding. Nauseating. Aching right into his bones. They seemed to crackle as if they were electrified. He tried to cry out, beg for help, but nothing would come out. His voice was lost, trapped in his throat by the blood and bile gurgling in his lungs. But then there was a light. Something distant, vague, but there, real and tangible.

Snow. It was everywhere. It was all she could see for as far as her sight could reach. Snow speckled with blood splatters and muddled with ash and soot. Coal black eyes stared, aimlessly drifting from one tattered body to a severed limb, and to the next. Unfazed. Unmoved. Just cold. Small hands lifted, eyes shifting to look at shaking fingers and fresh red liquid seeping between fingertips, caked under bitten-down and torn fingernails. “Blood…” The word was spoken on a single breath, the voice timid, childish, for it had come from a small, young girl who could stand no longer.
