The Holy War Made by King Shaddai Upon Diabolus, or, The Losing and Taking Again of the Town of Mansoul is a 1682 novel by John Bunyan. Written in the form of an allegory, it tells the story of the town Mansoul which rebels against king Shaddai, replacing his benign rule with that of Diabolus who turns out to be a harmful ruler. The king sends his son Emmanuel to reclaim the city. Salvation can come to the city only by the victory of Emmanuel.

The Pilgrim's Progress is regarded as one of the most significant works of theological fiction in English literature and is considered by some to be the first novel written in English. First published in 1678, it has been translated into more than 200 languages and had never been out of print. The Life and Death of Mr. Badman by John Bunyan can be a bit challenging, even for the best of listeners. Not so with this new, easy-to-understand version that translates the original archaic language into simple conversational English, allowing listeners of all ages to easily navigate this popular Christian story considered by many to be the third part of The Pilgrim’s Progress series. This story depicts the stages of life—from cradle to grave—of a very wicked man in an evil age and the miserable consequences that undoubtedly follow such wretched living.

The life of Mr. Badman forms a third part to The Pilgrim’s Progress, but it is not a delightful pilgrimage to heaven. On the contrary, it is a wretched downward journey to the infernal realms.
