Odgen in the studio of the Orthological Society in Cambridge during which Joyce read from his novel, “Finnegans Wake.”

Ein Junggeselle hat seinen Alltag so organisiert, dass dieser aus den immer gleichen Handlungen zu immer den gleichen Zeiten routiniert und problemlos bewältigt wird. Bei einem seiner seltenen Konzertbesuche erregt die Mutter einer etwa gleichaltrigen Frau sein Interesse und er spricht diese (die Mutter) an: Die beiden treffen sich nun öfters und verstehen sich so gut, dass er glaubt seine Seelenverwandte getroffen zu haben. Dennoch verlässt er sie.

Maria ist ein Single und arbeitet zufrieden als Wäscherin in Dublin.
