Arrogant, self-willed, and egotistical, Emma is Jane Austen's most unusual heroine. Her interfering ways and inveterate matchmaking are at once shocking and comic. She is "handsome, clever, and rich" and has "a disposition to think too well of herself." When she decides to introduce the humble Harriet Smith to the delights of genteel society and to find her a suitable husband, she precipitates herself and her immediate circle into a web of misunderstanding and intrigue, from which no one emerges unchanged.

Sense and Sensibility is Jane Austen’s first published novel. It tells the much-loved story of the two, very different, Dashwood sisters. Elinor suppresses her own emotions out of a keen sense of responsibility to her family and friends, while Marianne is highly expressive and romantic. When their father dies, British law leaves everything to their half-brother and his tight-fisted wife, and Elinor and Marianne, along with their mother and younger sister, have to move to a cottage on a relative’s estate where they experience the full spectrum of romance and betrayal.

Jane Austen’s most popular novel, originally published in 1813, some 17 years after it was first written, presents the Bennet family of Longbourn. Against the background of gossipy Mrs. Bennet and the detached Mr. Bennet, the quest is on for husbands for the five daughters. The spotlight falls on Elizabeth, second eldest, who is courted by Mr. Darcy, though initially she is more concerned with the fate of her other sisters. This marvelous account of family life in Regency England is read with customary panache by Juliet Stevenson.

The reduced circumstances of the Dashwood family cast a shadow over the romantic aspirations of daughters Elinor and Marianne - who must learn to mix sense with sensibility in approaching their problems with both money and men...

Anne's once-wealthy father - widowed for fourteen years - has fallen into financial ruin and the family is forced to rent their estate and move to more modest accommodations. What's more, the family that moves in to the house is that of Captain Wentworth, who Anne rejected as a suitor years before due to his lack of prospects but who has now risen in the military ranks to become wealthy and prosperous.

Love is in the air when five sisters discover that a wealthy and eligible bachelor is suddenly within reach. But it is his friend, the haughty Mr. Darcy, who becomes smitten. Unfortunately for him, the object of his affection is not so easily swayed. One of the most popular characters in English literature, Elizabeth Bennet is intelligent, witty, well-spoken and ahead of her time. If the terrible rumors about Mr. Darcy are true, he doesn't stand a chance. Yet not all gossip is to be believed when marriage, money, and reputations are on the line.

In the vein of Downton Abbey, Jane Austen's beloved but unfinished masterpiece--often considered her most modern and exciting novel--gets a spectacular second act in this tie-in to a major new limited television series. Written only months before Austen's death in 1817, Sanditon tells the story...

Have you ever wondered why the heart remains loyal even after hope is gone? In Jane Austen's most mature novel, Persuasion, Anne Elliot lives with the quiet agony of a past mistake. Anne's vain family is on the brink of ruin, while Wentworth returns from war a wealthy, eligible bachelor. As fate forces them back into the same social circle, Anne must navigate the painful awkwardness of his apparent indifference.

Written in epistolary form, this novella follows the manipulative behavior of Lady Susan Vernon, a scheming widow intent on securing a financial future for herself and also, rather begrudgingly, her teenage daughter, Frederica. Her sister-in-law, Catherine de Courcey, is none too pleased with Lady Susan's sudden arrival as Susan herself had tried to prevent Catherine's marriage to her beloved Charles.

Of all Jane Austen's books PRIDE AND PREJUDICE has earned a special place in the hearts of the reading public as her best-loved and most intimately known novel. From its famous opening sentence the story of Elizabeth and Darcy, told with a wit that its author feared might prove "rather too light...
