Sergei's dark avatar has helped him to defeat humanity's enemies. He's now one of the most powerful Seekers around: his victorious reputation precedes him. So several of his Cesspit-based peers force him to set off in search of a powerful artifact whose purpose remains a dark secret.

Vera has a nagging feeling that she's forgetting something. Not her keys or her homework-something bigger. Or someone. When she discovers her best friend Riven is experiencing the same strange feeling, they set out on a mission to uncover what's going on. Everyone in Vera's world has a special ability-a little bit of magic that helps them through the day. Perhaps someone's ability is interfering with their memory? Or is something altering their very reality?

Four girls from very different backgrounds are making their way to the mysterious Rosenholm Boarding School from different corners of the country. The one thing they have in common is the strange offer they have received to apply for a place at what will turn out to be a school for magic, deeply embedded in Nordic mythology, nature magic, and shamanism. The girls have been invited to apply for a reason that is as yet unknown to themselves, but already during the unorthodox application tests, it becomes apparent that a spirit is trying to establish contact with the girls.

In life, high school classmates Caroline Davison and Kenny Zhou existed in separate universes-Caroline in one of softball practices and family dinners; Kenny in one of NASA photo books and late-night shifts at his parents' Chinese restaurant. But after their deaths, they find themselves thrown together as roommates in a mysterious white room-one that seems to exist outside of time and space, shows them their loved ones' lives on a large hi-def TV, and grants their wishes with a sardonic sense of humor.
