Not being able to read and write was very hard in the 1950s. The educational system did not know about dyslexia. So, they saw Ellen Hawkins as a lazy, defiant child who didn’t want to put in the time and effort to learn. They never saw all the hours she put into memorizing all the words before spelling tests. She would write them, over and over again, until she was able to feel how to spell them.

Through its 211 interwoven poems, this double-tiered recursive crown of sonnets takes the listener on an epic journey to the heart of mankind’s would-be nemesis - herself - and back again. Does her destiny await in the unexplored depths of the cosmos, or in a toxic wasteland of her own making? Does she have the will to shape her own future, or is she a slave to her myopic wants and impulses?

Luminous and electric from the first line to the last, Allison Adair’s debut collection navigates the ever-shifting poles of violence and vulnerability with a singular incisiveness and a rich imagination. The women in these poems live in places that have been excavated for gold and precious ores, and they understand the nature of being hollowed out.

Sea Sores is a biographical collection of creative non-fiction by the writer, N. J. Wood. Subdivided into eight bite-size chapters on love, work, loss, family, spiritual meaning, the impact of technology, and the psychological friction of 21st-century living. The concept of this work was to create a book describing my former life in Brighton and the vibrant nature of the city itself, through a hundred short poetic sketches.

Urban myths and legends from all over America are condensed in this collection. Through this audiobook, various spectra pass, as the Chupacabra invokes and enumerates in one of the poems: “Creatures of the night and the sun. Deep Roots, Dark Forests explores the unseen, the unnoticed, and the uncared for in our lives. It's the simple everyday things that are the most fascinating - the flowers, the forest, the decaying architecture in an old Southern town. It's the silent, quick blooms of an azalea, the big, pure magnolia blossoms, and the wide roots of a live oak that capture the attention here.

Panic is a collection of more than 20 of Benjamin Welton's best poems, touching on fear, loneliness, insanity, and more. Rooted in the tradition of Emily Dickinson and Edgar Allan Poe, Welton's poetry brings an American Gothic sensibility to the 21st century, examining history, the supernatural, and the panic we all feel living in modern society. Featuring work published at Social Matter and other literary journals that are no longer online, Terror House Press is proud to bring Welton's poetry back into print.

Some Contemplative Writing students have spoken about the contemplative writing process as a "river of words" or a freeing of the writing processes. Contemplation is the mental easing of something that often results in the release of more inner workings than initially expected. I find when writing becomes less of a course of nature for me, painting and letting out imagery and color can itself ease up the processes of writing. These past few years I have been deeply studying and practicing meditation, which shares something with contemplation.

The poems in this collection fly from the microcosm of ripples in a lake to the macrocosm of light bending in a black hole, from math to jazz, from informal to formal, from the here-and-now to the hereafter. This short book contains an infinite universe - one that you will long to return to again and again.

A lively and imaginative debut, Neoteny explores blindness, family, and birdsong. In these poems, Emily K. Michael meditates on literary and personal heroes like Jo March, her beloved grandmother, and her guide dog. This collection is rich with treasures from childhood - the honey-colored piano Michael played, the fig tree in her front yard, and the trays of fresh mint drying on her grandmother's table.

Being in Harmony with Nature is a book of poems about the balance that we face in this high tech world and nature. How we cannot live without nature, man cannot create technology that replaces nature. I hope to have people stop and think about keeping the beauty of nature in our high tech world.
