Iano, è un orco grande e grosso, mostruoso d'aspetto ma gentile di carattere. E' vegetariano, e vive in armonia con animali e persone in una fetida palude che ama molto. Una terrificante puzza minaccia l'esistenza degli abitanti; Iano decide di scoprirne la causa. Aiutato da un gigantesco serpente, dopo alcune peripezie ne scopre l'origine. Si tratta di un enorme sedere costruito con la terra da un potente mago, che per oscuri scopi vuole inquinare l'aria della palude con i potenti peti del magico sedere.

Ivan Krylov (1768-1844), famoso autore di favole, si dedicò totalmente a questo genere letterario dal 1808 in poi, dopo scarsi successi come commediografo.
