The moments that it took Gavrilo Princip to step forward to the stalled car and shoot dead Franz Ferdinand and his wife were perhaps the most fateful of the modern era. He aims to drive a wedge between the “nation” and the “state,” only very recently conjoined, and recover a robust sense of nationalism that does not involve sovereignty.

Uncover the Most Influential Extra-Biblical Text Found in the Dead Sea Scrolls! Between 1947 & 1956, archaeologists uncovered approximately fifteen distinct copies of The Book of Jubilees in the caves of Qumran outnumbering virtually every non-canonical text found at the site, including 1 Enoch. Known historically as The Little Genesis and The Apocalypse of Moses, this sacred ancient text was revered by early believers as a direct divine revelation delivered to Moses on Mount Sinai by the Angel of the Presence.

No American city was more important to the Nazis than Los Angeles, home to Hollywood, the greatest propaganda machine in the world. The Nazis plotted to kill the city's Jews and to sabotage the nation's military installations: plans existed for hanging 20 prominent Hollywood figures such as Al Jolson, Charlie Chaplin, and Samuel Goldwyn; for driving through Boyle Heights and machine-gunning as many Jews as possible; and for blowing up defense installations and seizing munitions from National Guard armories along the Pacific Coast.

Long ago, on a spring morning in Jerusalem, Pontius Pilate passed judgment on a mysterious preacher. Jesus of Nazareth was nailed to a cross shortly after and died in agony. The effects of this verdict have reverberated throughout the world and have shaped two millennia of history. Even so, the trial remains shrouded in mystery to this day. Killing the Messiah determines why and how Pilate deemed Jesus guilty of criminal behavior and the roles played by various people in ensuring Jesus' crucifixion.

Did Plato possess a Greek Bible centuries before the Septuagint? In the second century, Christian philosopher Justin Martyr made a remarkable accusation: Plato had taken one of his most famous statements about human freedom and divine innocence directly from Moses: “The choice makes you responsible. God is not responsible.” Known in Greek as Aitia helomenou. Theos anaitios, these words appear in Plato’s Myth of Er at the conclusion of the Republic. Yet Justin insisted that Plato had not originated the teaching.
