Grey Sunshine tells the human stories behind the national crisis we see - and yet don’t see - every single day: the state of Indian education. It is an invitation to walk in the shoes of hundreds of thousands of children from less privileged backgrounds. Battling the injustices of poverty alongside them are 4,000 unlikely leaders from Teach for India, a two-year fellowship programme that places young people as full-time teachers in government classrooms across the country.

Matthew Friedman, the founder of the Be the Hero campaign, is a humanitarian professional who was formerly employed by the United Nations and the US government and has lived and worked in more than 40 countries.

With every news report, the world seems to be careening off the rails. It's all too easy to slip into despair waiting for co-opted, self-serving governments to act. Hope and action is the antidote. We each hold the power to make personal changes that can drive local changes and cascade into large-scale social transformation. This is the guidebook for ordinary people who want to create a new society now.

Regardless of the nature, structure, and position of your business, one of the first things you will like to consider is finding the easiest, cheapest, and fastest way to grow and steadily expand the network of your influence and customer base. The truth is, there are many marketing, income generation, and business promotion options out there, but all these have been taken over by significant technological breakthroughs of the 21st century. It is called social media marketing and other internet-based business platforms.

The Newgate Prison was a prison in London, at the corner of Newgate Street and Old Bailey, just inside the city of London. It was originally located at the site of Newgate, a gate in the Roman London Wall. The gate/prison was rebuilt in the 12th century and demolished in 1904. The prison was extended and rebuilt many times, and remained in use for over 700 years, from 1188 to 1902.

In this unflinching, unforgettable memoir, Regina Louise tells the true story of overcoming neglect in the US foster-care system. After years of jumping from one fleeting, often abusive home to the next, Louise meets a counselor named Jeanne Kerr. For the first time in her young life, Louise knows what it means to be seen, wanted, understood, and loved.

During a business trip to India, the author made an unexpected discovery, a discovery that was to turn his understanding of our world upside down. He was so shaken by what he learned that he felt unable to simply walk away. More often than not, when people are confronted by a major issue with global implications you will hear them say “What can I do? I’m only one person.” Mark decided that such a response would be unacceptable and he made up his mind to get involved. Rather than just sit on the sidelines, in 2014 Mark took decisive action.

American Nobel Peace Prize winner, philosopher, sociologist, and suffragette Jane Addams is known as the "mother" of social work. Her writing as well as her activism laid the foundation for many of the positive social services and theories we take for granted. In "The Subjective Necessity of Social Settlements", first published in 1892, she discusses in a compelling and fair-minded way the case for settlement living, living and working amongst those who need help most. As with all other Addams’ work, the emotional is inexorably tied to the logical and factual.

This audiobook contains three major works on Marxism: The Communist Manifesto, Wage-Labour and Capital, and Socialism: Utopian and Scientific, written by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels.

Jadie never spoke. She never laughed, or cried, or uttered any sound. Despite efforts to reach her, Jadie remained locked in her own troubled world - until one remarkable teacher persuaded her to break her self-imposed silence. Nothing in all of Torey Hayden's experience could have prepared her for the shock of what Jadie told her - a story too horrendous for Torey's professional colleagues to acknowledge.

Education, employment, and home ownership have long been considered stepping stones to the middle class. But in Abandoned Families, social policy expert Kristin Seefeldt shows how many working families have access only to a separate but unequal set of poor-quality jobs, low-performing schools, and declining housing markets, which offer few chances for upward mobility. Through in-depth interviews over a six-year period with women in Detroit, Seefeldt charts the increasing social isolation of many low-income workers.

Just when you think things can't get worse. They do. Then what do you do? There are some things, you just cannot ignore. Or can you?

As we live longer and die slower and differently than our ancestors, we have come to rely more and more on end-of-life caregivers. These workers navigate a changing landscape of old age and death that many of us have little preparation to encounter. How We Die Now is an absorbing and sensitive investigation of end-of-life issues from the perspectives of patients, relatives, medical professionals, and support staff.

Do you find yourself constantly asking your child to "pick up the pace"? Does he or she seem to take longer than others to get stuff done - whether completing homework, responding when spoken to, or getting dressed and ready in the morning? Drs. Ellen Braaten and Brian Willoughby have worked with thousands of kids and teens who struggle with an area of cognitive functioning called "processing speed" and who are often mislabeled as lazy or unmotivated.

Reconstruction had the potential to make good on the promise of America's founders, bringing freedom and equality to all. Yet this promise was undermined by defiant Southern whites determined to protect their own privilege. Earlier interpretations of this period often blamed the failures of Reconstruction on black people. But Foner's analysis concluded that Reconstruction was an overall failure because whites prevented African Americans from becoming equal citizens.
