Protagonista è un Papa senza nome, ma non del tutto irriconoscibile, impersonato stupendamente dallo stesso Fo, che soffre di una strana sindrome: ha paura dei bambini, che pure ha sempre amato, e per di più è colpito da un improvviso e misterioso attacco di artrite. Tra risate e paradossi si parla di droga e tossicodipendenza, ma anche di contraccezione. Va in scena per la prima volta nel 1989.

Un prologo più o meno improvvisato ci offre un ottimo esempio di satira politica aggiornata alla nostra contemporaneità. Seguono traduzioni, adattamenti e riscritture dei testi più significativi di Angelo Beolco, detto Ruzzante, magistralmente interpretati da Dario Fo che con amorosa cura rende omaggio al suo non più tardo illustre predecessore cinquecentesco padano.
