The war on the Eastern Front from 1941 to 1945 was the bloodiest combat theater in the bloodiest war in history. Oberleutnant Friedrich Wilhelm Sander experienced this bloodshed firsthand when serving with the 11th Panzer-Regiment. Na londyńskiej paradzie zwycięstwa w 1946 roku, w której obok Anglików i Amerykanów maszerowali nawet sanitariusze z Fidżi i oddziały robocze z Seszeli, zabrakło Polaków. Rząd Jego Królewskiej Mości na dwa tygodnie przed defiladą rozwiązał Polskie Siły Zbrojne na Zachodzie.
