The project of surveying Gloucestershire at first seemed to be almost too big to handle, indeed it involved multiple journeys crisscrossing the county. But I think the result reveals the great range of individual character in its many towns and villages: compare traditional Cotswold centers such as Great Barrington and Upper Slaughter in the north east with the intensely industrialized districts of Yate and Filton above Bristol, or the freshness of the Vale of Berkeley bordering the Severn Estuary.

The fifth of Cv's English County Guides Norfolk is characterized by the breadth and variation of its countryside, known for its arched skies and expansive landscape. In a series of journeys that crisscrossed the county, author Nicholas James recorded over 100 villages and market towns, ranging from Cromer to Hunstanton on the "Norfolk Riviera" to the King's Lynn by "The Wash".

Although it is one of the smaller counties, Buckinghamshire has a strong individual identity, with the Chiltern Hills, steep roads going down through beechwoods and the blue distances of Aylesbury Vale. It is historic, with plenty of Oliver Cromwell and Royalist connections. There are some thriving county towns: Aylesbury, High Wycombe, and Milton Keynes. It is also conveniently close to London. The Grand Union Canal cuts right down from north to south and there are several sailing clubs.

Tracks guides give information on over 150 professions, such as banking and financial services, catering and hospitality, construction, education, health care, land and sea work, law, government and administration, leisure and tourism, manufacturing crafts, marketing, media, service professions, and sports and fitness.

This guide explores the county of Cumbria. The journey starts in Kendal, and moves to Windermere, Bowness and Ambleside. From there: Keswick and Derwentwater, Ullswater and Braithwaite to Buttermere, via the Whinlatter Forest. The beautiful environment of tarns and fells opens many varied experiences for the traveler. The guide includes information and histories from local sources.

Cv Publications' series of relocation guides to English counties was launched with my survey of Oxfordshire. It was a journey of discovery. Rather than just passing from point A to B, my excursions followed an ad hoc schedule of diverse routes. I found myself turning down obscure side lanes leading to little villages hidden in a marvelous landscape of deep countryside.

The sixth in Cv's series of English County Guides explores Wiltshire. The dramatic sweep of a spare landscape of the Pewsey Vale introduces the historic town of Marlborough. It follows routes towards the west; to Bath and Avon; taking in settlements of Chippenham, Calne, Melksham, Devizes, Malmesbury, and Bradford on Avon.

With its eccentric shape, tacked on like a long medieval shoe to Southern England, Cornwall is not the easiest shape of an area to research. I began by driving north to Kilkhampton and Morwenstow, then south via Bude to Bodmin and Padstow. From there I moved east to Launceston, visiting Antony and St Germans near the Tamar Valley, and down to Looe and St Austell.

A visit to the Palace of Knossos in Crete in 2005 leads to the story of the fabled Ring of Minos, lost for 2,000 years but rediscovered in the 1930s, now in the local museum of Herakleon. The author joins the tour of the ancient Minoan palace and adds historical reference to this detailed study of a great and vanished culture.

Love and marriage...does it really go like horse and carriage? In part five of Magdalena Wasiura's journal, one can hear a broad chapter regarding marriage and love coupling, and in the context of a strange encounter in Beni Mellal about hashish and l'eau de vie. One will travel to the plateau de Tadla and discover an amazing Bin El Ouidan barrage and one will dance to the Berber upbeat at a newborn baby party.

It's far from easy to say goodbye, but before the author bids everyone farewell, she goes on a long physically and emotionally draining journey. The countless hours in the buses to Chefchaouen, then Raba, then Marrakesh are a significant component of Part 8, the last part of Les Berbères et Moi. The author meets obstacles at Raba airport that turn her back to Khénifra, to the police station. And someone dies in this part....
