HorrorBabble's complete, dramatic telling of Robert W. Chambers' classic collection, The King in Yellow. The book comprises 10 individual tales, several of which are thematically linked by a controversial play with which the novel shares its title.

In the secluded Dutch territory of Sleepy Hollow, nebbish schoolmaster Ichabod Crane competes with the town hero for the hand of Katrina Van Tassel, the 18-year-old daughter and sole child of a wealthy farmer. As Crane leaves a party at the Van Tassel's farm one autumn evening, he is pursued by the Headless Horseman, an apparition said to be the ghost of a Hessian trooper snuffed out by a stray cannonball.

When an ordinary family is given a mysterious talisman said to grant three wishes, it feels at first like nothing more than a curiosity. But when a wish is made, the consequences arrive with a quiet, devastating force—and nothing will ever be the same again. W. W. Jacobs’ The Monkey’s Paw is one of the most enduring tales of suspense ever written: a story not of sudden shocks, but of mounting dread, where every moment feels inevitable and every choice carries weight.

The Shadow over Innsmouth is a horror novella by American author H. P. Lovecraft, written in November-December 1931. It forms part of the Cthulhu Mythos, using its motif of a malign undersea civilization, and references several shared elements of the Mythos, including place-names, mythical creatures, and invocations. The Shadow over Innsmouth is the only Lovecraft story that was published in book form during his lifetime. The narrator is a student conducting an antiquarian tour of New England. He travels through the nearby decrepit seaport of Innsmouth.

There is something about the number 3. The Ancient Greeks believed 3 was the perfect number, and in China 3 has always been a lucky number, and they know a thing or two. Most religions also have 3 this and 3 that and, of course, in these more modern times, three’s a crowd may be too many, except when it’s a ménage à trois. It seems good things usually come in threes.

Welcome to Arkham—a place where reason crumbles, forbidden knowledge festers, and shadows move of their own accord. In this chilling anthology, we'll explore the haunted heart of H. P. Lovecraft’s New England mythos. These seven tales chart the descent of scholars, doctors, and dreamers as they brush against the secrets lurking beneath Arkham’s ivy-clad halls and crumbling colonial homes. From reanimation experiments gone awry to occult rituals beneath moonless skies, each story peels back the veil on a world not meant to be known.

Long before science, there were older truths, whispered by witches, guarded by cults, and written in blood. In this sinister anthology, H. P. Lovecraft explores the shadowy world of ancient rites, folk horror, and inherited blasphemies. Here, strange festivals unfold under full moons, forgotten gods stir in rural hills, and knowledge forbidden by time itself reawakens. These stories draw from the primal roots of myth and superstition, where the line between folklore and fact is not just thin, but burning.

A former intern and a worker of a mental hospital relates his experience with Joe Slater, an inmate who died at the facility a few weeks after being confined as a criminally insane murderer. He describes Slater as a "typical denizen of the Catskill Mountain region, who corresponds exactly with the 'white trash' of the South", for whom "laws and morals are nonexistent" and whose "general mental status is probably below that of any other native American people".

The story is narrated as a "found manuscript" penned by Karl Heinrich, Graf von Altberg-Ehrenstein, a lieutenant-commander in the Imperial German Navy during the days of World War I. Altberg begins by declaring that he has decided to document the events leading up to his untimely end in order to "set certain facts" before the public, aware that he will not survive to do so himself.

A strange old man, "so old that no one can remember when he was young, and so taciturn that few know his real name," lives alone in an ancient house on Water Street in the town of Kingsport. Even among the locals, few know the details of the old man's life, but it is believed that he once captained East Indian clipper ships in his youth and accumulated great riches throughout his life. Those who had visited the property had seen bizarre collections of stones in the front yard and observed the old man carrying on conversations with mysterious bottles on his table.

Thomas Olney, a "philosopher" visiting the town of Kingsport, Massachusetts with his family, is intrigued by a strange house on a cliff overlooking the ocean. It is unaccountably high and old and the locals have a generations-long dread of the place which no one is known to have visited. With great difficulty, Olney climbs the crag, approaches the house, and meets the mysterious man who lives there. The only door opens directly onto a sheer cliff, giving access only to mist and "the abyss".
