If you’ve spent any time at Lake of the Ozarks, chances are you’ve heard the name Shelly Flippo—and if you’ve ever been “Flippo’d,” you already know exactly what you’re getting into.

On Episode 13 of the Swift Tea Podcast, we sit down with one of the Lake’s most unforgettable personalities for a conversation that goes everywhere—and we mean everywhere. From growing up on a pig farm in Central Illinois and earning the crown as a Pork Queen, to landing at Lake of the Ozarks, falling in love with John Flippo, and becoming part of the fabric of the Lake community, Shelly’s story is anything but ordinary.

We go back to the early days of Kirkwood Lodge, where John’s father, legendary square dance caller Marshall Flippo, entertained generations of families from across the country. Shelly takes us through meeting John over Memorial Day weekend in 1997, falling in love with him and the Lake, and eventually becoming part of an era of Lake nightlife that locals still talk about today.

Then we get into the Blue Room years—11 years behind one of the hottest nightlife spots at the Lake, complete with stand-up comedians, packed winter nights, celebrity encounters, questionable drink names, and enough stories to fill another dozen episodes. Shelly talks about meeting comedians like Nikki Glaser and the unforgettable characters who came through the doors during one of the Lake’s most legendary nightlife eras.

We also dive into how Shelly transitioned from nightlife into entrepreneurship and created FlipBack Resale, the premium consignment store she’s operated for more than a decade. She shares how relationships built during her bar days helped launch the business, why she believed Lake of the Ozarks needed a higher-end resale shop, and some absolutely WILD stories about what happens when you own a retail store.

Of course, you can’t have Shelly on without talking about the legendary Pink Party. What started in 2019 has turned into an annual Lake tradition filled with pink, tequila, live music, friends, and exactly the kind of chaos you’d expect when Shelly Flippo throws a birthday party. Episode 12, we're sitting down with one of the Lake of the Ozarks' most fascinating people, Shaun "Dutch" McAlpin. Before becoming the owner of Hollow Cove Barbershop, Shaun spent more than 20 years working undercover at the highest levels of federal law enforcement, infiltrating motorcycle gangs, organized crime, human trafficking rings, violent extremists, and some of the most dangerous criminal organizations in the country.

In this episode, Shaun pulls back the curtain on a life very few people have ever experienced. He shares unbelievable stories from his years undercover, how he earned the nickname "Dutch," what it was really like living under multiple identities, and the challenges of balancing family life while living a covert life. From million-dollar investigations and undercover operations to the hilarious story of nearly blowing an operation because of bad pizza, this episode is packed with stories that are as funny as they are unbelievable.

We also dive into Shaun's life after federal service, how he found peace living in California, Puerto Rico, and ultimately Lake of the Ozarks, why he opened Hollow Cove Barbershop, and what makes the lake feel like home.
