  • S1-E4 If Mike Switches His Switches, Will It Make A Difference?
    2025/11/09

On this episode of …and Here's How, we start with a surprising Autumn-season question: Are robot caregivers rewiring our empathy? Inspired by the new Frankenstein film and real research on AI in eldercare, the team explores what happens when we outsource the human parts of our work, and why compassion still needs to stay "in the loop."

From there, we turn to a listener voicemail from Mike, a home services business owner who's busy, booked, and still unsure if the work he's doing is actually profitable. His question sparks a lively breakdown of profit blind spots and the hidden ways businesses leak time, energy, and margins.

JD challenges the idea that Mike's issue is "strategic" at all, suggesting that he may simply be pulling the wrong levers at the wrong level. Before reinventing the business, he may just need to switch his switches and get back to the basics that actually move the needle.

Marina and Pete take the human angle, revealing how team wellness, customer energy, and friction in the day-to-day play a much bigger role in profitability than most owners realize.

If you've ever felt stuck, busy, or "webbed up" by work that should be paying off more than it does, this episode will help you see both the systems and the humans behind your results — and where a few small switches might make a very big difference.

  • Will Nichole get her Groove Back, if she gets back in her Groove?
    2025/10/17

In this week's episode, hosts Marina, JD, and Pete meet listener Nichole. Nichole is stuck at work. Eleven years into her career, Nichole owns her own business, speaks at industry conferences, and checks all the "made it" boxes. But lately, she's not sure if she needs a new direction or just a real break. Together, the team explores the gray area between quitting and recommitting, and how to know when you're running out of passion versus just running on fumes.

Marina brings the psychology and empathy. Pete talks about stepping back (or even teaching what you already know). And JD, of course, throws a curveball, maybe it's not about leaving at all… maybe it's about hiring your next boss.

Maybe Nichole can get her groove back by getting back in her groove?

It's a conversation about purpose, burnout, and getting your groove back, lemur-style.

  • Tom's Flaming Alligators
    2025/10/03

In this Episode, JD & Pete (where's Marina?) meet Tom. Tom is stuck at work. He can't accomplish his objectives because the Sr Management Team, and his own crew, keep finding new problems to solve faster than he can resolve the issues he's already working on.

The Episode starts with JD & Pete discussing the implications of Starbucks closing many of it's stores - particularly on their low rent conference room. We listen to Tom's call and the problem solving starts with Pete describing a method to rank projects in order to sell stability to the Sr Managers. JD jumps in with a potential way to adapt agile project management (SCRUM) to help solve this problem and the episode concludes with a list of resources.
