Send a Text Message to The Kosher Terroir
An email promised, “your next favorite wine is waiting,” and I decided not to accept that line without a map. From Jerusalem, we tell a story most wine drinkers recognize: the one about the dependable kosher bottle we buy again and again because it never lets you down, and the quiet downside of that success. Familiar starts to taste like “better,” even when it just tastes like home, and the wine world’s usual advice (“try something new”) is an excellent suggestion with no instructions on how, what, or why.
We bring in fascinating research on expectation and perception, including how repeated exposure builds preference, how price tags can change pleasure in the brain, and how even trained tasters can be led by color. Then we translate that into a practical method you can use in any wine shop: every bottle has an address with four lines: grape, place (terroir), maker, and structure (how it feels in your mouth). The key rule of the whole tasting game is to keep three, and change one.
To make it real, we walk through four “doors” with four pairs of wines: same grape, new place; same place, new grape; same maker, new wine; and the most freeing door of all, same structure, new everything. Along the way, we touch on mevushal basics for kosher wine handling, and we end where we began with the blessing for a new wine you cannot say alone.
Subscribe, share this with a friend who always buys the same bottle, and leave a review telling us what your go-to wine is and what you hope its neighbor will be.
