  • ”Credit Ratings Broken”, Warns Fmr. S&P Ratings Chief Moritz Kraemer
    2025/04/29

The global credit ratings system is rapidly losing credibility in the eyes of LBBW Chief Economist Moritz Kraemer, who is now sounding the alarm. In this exclusive conversation, Moritz warns of major economic risks brewing beneath the surface, highlighting runaway U.S. debt and volatile American policy decisions that will destabilize markets.

Germany in the meantime is being held back by outdated investments as well as demographic shifts. Moritz stresses the urgency for Germany to innovate and reform before lasting damage is done. The country is at critical crossroads, but the potential upside is still there long-term.

Moritz Kraemer is Chief Economist and Head of Research at LBBW Bank. He is also a Senior Fellow at the Centre for Sustainable Finance at SOAS, University of London. Until 2018 he was at S&P Global as the Sovereign Ratings Group Global Chief Ratings Officer, overseeing the analysis on the creditworthiness of over 130 national governments worldwide. At S&P he introduced new ways to measure the impact of megatrends on sovereign ratings.

  • Exclusive: What It Takes to Build a Private Equity Firm in Abu Dhabi
    2025/02/18

In this episode with Huda Al Lawati, CEO of Aliph Capital, we have a conversation about private equity, entrepreneurship, and the rollercoaster investment outlook.

When it comes to coffee, it’s more about the culture and ritual than just the drink itself. From there, we dive into her journey of launching Aliph Capital during peak global uncertainty. She explains how the leadership in the Gulf during that time gave her the confidence to start something new.

We also explore how the Gulf region has become a much more entrepreneur-friendly environment in recent years. But, as Huda points out, fundraising remains one of the toughest challenges for first-time private equity managers. It’s one thing to raise money, but real success in this industry isn’t about that—it’s about returning money to investors.

Huda Al Lawati is the founder of Aliph Capital, an alternative investment manager focused on mid-market private equity across the Gulf (GCC) region. She has been in the industry for over 20 years and was also featured in the Top 100 Businesswomen in the Middle East by Forbes.
