  • Scott Peterson: How Was He Convicted With No Weapon and No Cause of Death?
    2026/10/17

No weapon. No cause of death. No witness to any crime. Part 4 of our 5-part Scott Peterson series: the 2004 trial — and the verdict built from hundreds of small pieces.

Moved to Redwood City after a year of national coverage, the trial opened June 1, 2004 with no cameras in the courtroom. Prosecutor Rick Distaso told a straight-line story: a husband who felt trapped, a boat bought in secret, cement anchors, and a body in the Bay. Mark Geragos answered with everything the state did not have. Then, in August, Amber Frey took the stand and the jury heard roughly eleven hours of Scott Peterson's own recorded calls. Deliberations began November 3 — and twice, jurors were removed and the panel had to start over. On November 12, 2004, the verdict came in. Part 5 — the penalty phase, the sentence, and twenty years of appeals — drops tomorrow.

  • Scott Peterson: Why Did the Bay Hold the Answer for 110 Days?
    2026/10/16

For 110 days, nobody could say where Laci Peterson was. Then, on two April days in 2003, the San Francisco Bay answered. Part 3 of our 5-part Scott Peterson series: the recovery and the arrest.Divers and sonar crews searched the waters off the Berkeley Marina all winter and found nothing — not on Laci's February 10 due date, not when police reclassified the case as a homicide on March 5. On April 13, 2003, a couple walking their dog found a baby boy on the Richmond shoreline. The next day, a jogger found a woman about a mile away at Point Isabel — a few miles north of the marina where Scott said he went fishing. On April 18, DNA confirmed Laci and Conner, and that same day detectives arrested Scott Peterson in La Jolla: hair dyed blond, about $15,000 in cash, four phones, two driver's licenses, and camping gear in his car. Prosecutors said flight. His family said golf. Part 4 — the trial — drops tomorrow.🔔 A new YS Crime episode drops every single day — SUBSCRIBE and turn on notifications.CHAPTERS0:00 Intro0:27 Cold Open: 110 Days of Silence1:09 The Winter Search of the Bay2:01 A Due Date With No Answer2:52 April 13: The Shoreline Discovery3:33 April 14: One Mile Apart4:21 DNA Answers: Laci and Conner5:12 The Same Day: An Arrest5:58 Arrested in La Jolla6:40 Flight Risk — or a Golf Trip?7:28 Arraigned: Not Guilty8:14 The Board Is Set for Trial9:06 Subscribe — Part 4 Tomorrow🎧 Can't watch? • Scott Peterson: Why Did He Say He Lost His Wife Before She Vanished?
    2026/10/15

He told the woman in Fresno he had lost his wife — two weeks before Laci Peterson was reported missing. Part 2 of our 5-part Scott Peterson series: the Amber Frey chapter.Amber Frey was a Fresno massage therapist and single mother who was introduced to Scott Peterson on November 20, 2002 and told he was unmarried. On December 9 he told her he had "lost" his wife — the same day he bought the fishing boat. On December 30, after recognizing him in the coverage of Laci's disappearance, Frey went to Modesto police herself and agreed to record his calls. Those recordings captured the New Year's Eve Paris lie — told while he stood at Laci's candlelight vigil — and the January 24, 2003 press conferences that changed the case. Laci was still missing. • Payton Gendron: Why Is a Man Already Serving Life Facing a New Trial?
    2026/10/13

He is already serving 11 life sentences with no parole — so why is a brand-new jury being picked in Buffalo today? Because the federal case asks the one question New York never could: life, or death. On May 14, 2022, ten people were killed at the Tops Friendly Markets on Jefferson Avenue in Buffalo, New York — Celestine Chaney, Roberta Drury, Andre Mackneil, Katherine Massey, Margus Morrison, Heyward Patterson, Aaron Salter, Geraldine Talley, Ruth Whitfield, and Pearl Young. Payton Gendron pleaded guilty in state court and will never walk free. Today, October 13, 2026, jury selection begins in his federal hate-crimes trial — 27 counts, the death penalty on the table, 1,000+ juror questionnaires, and a decision expected early next year. This is a factual, non-graphic explainer: what happened, what the state case already decided, and what this federal jury still has to decide. No manifesto content. No glorification. Just the record — and the ten names that matter.🔔 A new YS Crime episode drops every single day — SUBSCRIBE and turn on notifications.🎧 Can't watch?
