Connor Hellebuyck may skip Winnipeg Jets training camp, forcing the team into a tough spot as they scramble to find a solution by Wednesday or Thursday. While no immediate financial penalties hit him—since NHL players aren’t paid until the season starts—the trade market for Hellebuyck remains cold, with minimal interest and offers far below what Winnipeg demands. Fans are furious, calling his potential holdout a betrayal of contract expectations, and some even suggest letting him sit out the whole year. The Jets face an uphill battle: they can’t trade their elite goalie for pennies, and other teams know it, leaving them stuck in a frustrating limbo.

Carolina Hurricanes just won the Stanley Cup, but they’re already eyeing a bigger prize—possibly by trading for Connor Hellebuyck, the Vezina-winning goalie from Winnipeg. A proposed deal would send Hellebuyck to Carolina in exchange for defenseman Alexander Nikishin, goalie Pyotr Kochetkov, and a first-round pick. While it’d instantly upgrade Carolina’s netminding, the trade doesn’t fully satisfy Winnipeg’s need for offensive firepower. Nikishin, a restricted free agent with 33 points last season, might want out, and Kochetkov offers experience but limited ice time. With training camp near, this bold move could signal Carolina’s serious intent to stay atop the league—and whether the Jets get what they truly need remains uncertain.

The Winnipeg Jets just made a big move by hiring Matt Larke as their first-ever full-time skills coach — and he’s already got the team buzzing. With deep roots in skating mechanics and a proven track record from his time consulting with the Seattle Kraken, Larke brings fresh energy and freedom to define this new role. He’ll work hand-in-hand with head coach Scott Arniel, freeing up coaching staff to focus on strategy while Larke elevates player performance through movement, game integration, and injury rehab. His personal connection with forward Kyle Connor — forged at Michigan — gives him instant credibility and a built-in advocate among teammates. Larke’s message? He’s here to help players become better, earn more ice time, and be the “good cop” who makes winning easier. The locker room is ready for his impact.

Connor Hellebuyck’s trade request is heating up, but the Winnipeg Jets aren’t rushing to move their star goalie—offers are too low and the market’s tight. Hellebuyck, who’s grateful for his time in Winnipeg but wants a fresh start with his family, confirmed he’s seeking a change, though not to another Canadian team. With GM Kevin Cheveldayoff refusing to settle for pennies and fans watching closely, it looks like Hellebuyck might stick around for at least this season unless a better deal emerges before training camp.

Winnipeg’s Vezina-winning goalie is locked in a trade standoff, with teams unwilling to meet the Jets’ asking price — but don’t expect him to sit out. At his age and with a massive contract looming, skipping camp would be career suicide. He’s the heart of the team, almost like a captain, and playing every game is non-negotiable for both his legacy and the Jets’ success. While rumors swirl about where he might land — even jokingly tied to his fishing habits — the only certainty is he’ll be between the pipes for Winnipeg until a deal that works for both sides finally emerges.

Winnipeg Jets prospects fell short in Quebec with a 6-4 loss to Toronto, but their grit and skill shone through—especially on special teams, where they netted three power-play goals and one shorthanded. Coach Mark Morrison praised the unit’s chemistry, highlighting Björck, Freij, and Yager, while rookie Jacob Julien made an instant impact with a slick first-goal performance. Julien’s focus now shifts to leveraging his size more effectively, while Davis Burnside, fresh off college, dazzled alongside Björck—calling him “unbelievable” for his vision and playmaking. Even down three late, the team rallied with two quick power-play goals, proving resilience under pressure. Though they didn’t walk away with the trophy, Morrison was proud of their growth, teamwork, and readiness for the next phase—whether it’s main camp, juniors, or the Moose.
