Connor Hellebuyck may skip Winnipeg Jets training camp, forcing the team into a tough spot as they scramble to find a solution by Wednesday or Thursday. While no immediate financial penalties hit him—since NHL players aren’t paid until the season starts—the trade market for Hellebuyck remains cold, with minimal interest and offers far below what Winnipeg demands. Fans are furious, calling his potential holdout a betrayal of contract expectations, and some even suggest letting him sit out the whole year. The Jets face an uphill battle: they can’t trade their elite goalie for pennies, and other teams know it, leaving them stuck in a frustrating limbo.

Carolina Hurricanes just won the Stanley Cup, but they’re already eyeing a bigger prize—possibly by trading for Connor Hellebuyck, the Vezina-winning goalie from Winnipeg. A proposed deal would send Hellebuyck to Carolina in exchange for defenseman Alexander Nikishin, goalie Pyotr Kochetkov, and a first-round pick. While it’d instantly upgrade Carolina’s netminding, the trade doesn’t fully satisfy Winnipeg’s need for offensive firepower. Nikishin, a restricted free agent with 33 points last season, might want out, and Kochetkov offers experience but limited ice time. With training camp near, this bold move could signal Carolina’s serious intent to stay atop the league—and whether the Jets get what they truly need remains uncertain.
