  • Empathy vs. Sympathy in the Healing Journey (Empathy ACTIVATION for the Weary Heart!)

    In this episode of the Wholeness Campaign Podcast we compare and contrast the ideas of empathy and sympathy. When people are healing from chronic illness, it is really common for people to step into the role of pitying someone or unintentionally looking down on them. Have you ever thought, “I’m glad I’m not in their shoes”?? That is the essence of sympathy. Whereas empathy is intentionally putting yourself in the other person’s shoes to feel what they are feel WHILE at the same time believing in them and having hope that they can come out. In this episode I practice an exercise in empathy to demonstrate what it may sound like. I hope you are encouraged by this empathy, especially if you have been fighting for your health for any length of time. I am with you and I hope even though I don’t know exactly where you are at that you feel attuned to (or at the very least this kick starts some self-attunement or self-compassion that you have been needing).
