Whatever! The Gen-X Podcast is for the generation that grew up on mixtapes, Saturday morning cartoons, and the firm belief that we'd never turn into our parents. Spoiler: we did anyway.

Every week, Dwayne and Heather dig into what it meant to grow up Gen X and what it means to live it out now. There's the music, the movies, the cultural moments we can't let go of, and the real stuff that comes with being a maturing generation nobody saw coming. Equal parts nostalgia trip and honest conversation, with enough humor to make it worth the ride.

Whatever. As if. Talk to the hand. We're back.

Badges, big hair, and back seat handcuffs. This week Dwayne and Heather grab the siren and count down the top ten cop shows that defined a whole generation of Wednesday nights, from Hill Street Blues to Miami Vice. Plus, "This Week in Gen X History" covers August 2nd through the 8th, a Nielsen-informed rundown of who really ruled the small screen, and a closing conversation on why cop shows were absolutely everywhere in that era.

This week's countdown includes: Baretta, Kojak, Adam-12, Starsky & Hutch, Hunter, Cagney & Lacey, T.J. Hooker, CHiPs, Miami Vice, and Hill Street Blues, with honorable mentions for S.W.A.T., Columbo, and Police Woman.

Whatever! The Gen X Podcast is a weekly show for anyone who grew up with a house key on a shoelace and a landline that only sometimes worked. New episodes drop every Wednesday.

  • Our Favorite Sitcoms of the 80s
    2026/07/29

This week Dwayne and Heather step away from the news cycle for pure nostalgia: the sitcoms that owned Thursday nights before "Must See TV" was even a phrase. They build a Nielsen-informed top 10 countdown pulled straight from the actual season-by-season ratings, argue over where certain shows landed, and each reveal a personal top 5 of the sitcoms they watched and loved growing up.

    Topics covered:

    • What "must-see TV" meant before NBC trademarked the phrase
    • The Nielsen countdown, #10 to #1: The Jeffersons, Three's Company, Who's the Boss?, Growing Pains, Night Court, The Golden Girls, M*A*S*H, Cheers, Family Ties, and The Cosby Show
    • The Cosby Show's total ratings dominance versus its complicated legacy today
    • The sitcom evolution across the decade, from Three's Company-style farce to Cosby/Family Ties "issue of the week" warmth
    • Dwayne and Heather's personal top 5 picks, head to head against the Nielsen list
    • Why Moonlighting didn't make the cut (dramedy, not sitcom)

    Clip & Music Attribution
