GILL's BACK!! ...and wow is she pleased to be back, but not as pleased as Pete who doesn't have to hold the fort alone...

The two of them share more strange and wonderful facts on a Friday morning for you to share at your weekend get togethers!

This week Gill dives in head first to the history of bathing and washing in general which sparks more debate than you may think. She also tells us of a photo depicting 9 reigning European monarchs which would be the only time in history this was possible. Finally she takes a walk down her favourite street - Etymology Lane and tells us the origins of a few phrases and including the where we get the word Handicap.

Pete has an up and down week this week with a heavy going story of Second World War Heroism from Irena Sendler and her incredible bravery to save children from the Nazis and the lighter story of massive big arrows painted on the ground for early aviators to find their way across North America. Plus somewhere in the middle he tells us why a certain James Bond always blinks when he fires a gun.

    Welcome back Gill!

  • 39 - Now Facts What I Call Facts (A Compilation)
    2025/09/04

It's another Friday of Fact based fun but this week is a little different as Gill is M.I.A. on her travels. Pete is flying solo and looks back at some of their favourite facts from the early days of the podcast.

We look back at the memorable moment when Gill grossed herself out with a medical fact, Pete grossed Gill out by telling her a fact about Geology and also Gill gets grossed out by a historic medical moment of heroism after an arrow based battle mishap.

In non-gross facts they also look at John Cage's most time consuming musical performance, the most successful female pirate of all time and a luckily unsuccessful royal assassin.

We hope you enjoy this little bundle of facts from our early days. Normal service will resume next week!! Hurry back Gill.

  • 38 - Good Gangsters, Good A.I. & "Mike the Durable"
    2025/08/28

Yet another Friday sees Gill Smith and Pete Moor sharing the fact-based wealth again with more fun facts and lesser known stories of heroes and villains from history or just general things you may not know!

This week Gill tells us the fantastic, yet troubling story of "Durable Mike Malloy", the fascinating story of Dr James Barry (b.1789) and how he delivered the ultimate post-death twist and finally, she tells us a British political fact that should be more exciting than it is but maybe that is the most facty thing about the fact?

Pete shares a fun fact about those pesky forgetful squirrels who are inadvertently doing their bit for the woodlands. He also has a story of hope about how AI is doing some good in the world of medicine and helping save lives that otherwise may have been lost.

Finally, he has a story involving World War 2, The Mafia, and two guys called "Lucky" and "Socks"... what could be more interesting than that?!
