What moves you? Not your title. Not your bio. What gets you out of bed, keeps you moving when things get hard, and brings you back to yourself?

What Moves You? is a podcast about purpose, leadership and the practices that sustain us.

Hosted by global resilience leader and embodied leadership practitioner Lauren Sorkin, each episode goes beyond what accomplished people have done to explore what drives them, the roadblocks they've navigated, and how pressure shows up in their bodies and lives.

We talk about resilience, energy, self-doubt, change and the practices people use to stay grounded - from movement and meditation to running, music, breath and the rituals that bring them back to center.

And because music can take us somewhere words can't, every guest shares the music that moves them.

After years spent helping cities around the world become more resilient, Lauren is asking the same question of people: What keeps us able to lead, choose and keep moving when life asks more of us?

Leadership. Resilience. Movement. Reinvention.

What moves you?

I'm Lauren, and this episode is a good one — grab a cup of tea.

I sat down with my friend Isabel Galiano Bossart, who is a breast cancer coach, nutritional therapist, health coach, yoga therapist, and a two-time survivor, first diagnosed at 32 with a recurrence two years later. She also tells me the Flemish-Spanish story behind her name, which I didn't know until we hit record — so that makes two of us learning something.

Isabel's work started long before her own diagnosis, caring for her mother through a cancer she didn't survive, and it's shaped everything Isabel's done since. For more than a decade she's helped women through treatment — but more importantly, through the part almost nobody prepares you for: the rebuilding that comes after, right when everyone around you is ready for "back to normal" and you are very much not there yet.

We get into the real roadblocks — the identity you have to rebuild, the care that disappears exactly when you need it most, and the quiet pressure to just feel grateful instead of asking for help. Isabel also walks me through her own reset when stress lands in her body (posture, then breath, then finally being honest with the voice in her head), and she tells me which songs get her through a hard day. One of them is peak-era U2, and I will not be taking questions about my own playlist after this.

  • Just a Human in a Room — Leading Cape Town Through Crisis
    2026/10/15

Got something to say to this podcast? Send a voicemail, and you might hear yourself on the next episode!

On this What Moves You, I sit down with Gareth Morgan, Executive Director of Future Planning and Resilience for the City of Cape Town, whose work has helped the city navigate major shocks and stresses.

From the historic drought and COVID to climate pressures and rapid growth his work has become a global standard. On the episode, we talk about how he makes resilience a lived decision-making practice, not a strategy on a shelf. Gareth shares why his purpose is building others’ capability inside public institutions so they can adapt under difficult conditions.

We also get into his biggest roadblock: self-doubt and imposter syndrome, and how it shows up physically and the coping mechanisms he uses to reset through movement—especially long-distance running. His song choice will definitely get you moving and to find that out, you'll have to listen.
