In today's episode, we discuss a recent play called "We Reserve the Right of Admission," produced by Flamboyán Theater in Denver, Colorado, and written by Alberto Medina, the current president of Boricuas Unidos en la Diaspora. This play portrays the current relationship between Puerto Rico and the United States in the form of several characters, each representing the US, PR, and the Secretary, who serves as the messenger that also colludes with US interests and endorses power and control dynamics. Alberto takes us through some emerging themes in this play, such as how Puerto Rico is trying to get statehood, but it never arrives because of US arbitrary rules regarding the status of Puerto Rico and how the United States, in spite of its reluctance to offer statehood, also shies away from supporting independence for Puerto Rico.
