The Caps just locked up forward Justin Sourdif with an eight-year, $50.8M contract — averaging $6.35M per year — hours after signing Ryan Leonard to a similar deal. Acquired in a trade last year, Sourdif delivered a breakout rookie season with 15 goals, 20 assists, and 30 points, proving his value by stepping up when needed, adapting to different lines, and holding his own against top competition. GM credits Sourdif’s agent for flexibility during crunch time negotiations. Though his role may be more spread out this season with a deeper forward group, expectations are high that his impact will grow over the next eight years — cementing him as a cornerstone of center depth. These moves signal a bold new direction for the team, setting the stage for a competitive, feared squad heading into training camp.
