The Capitals just handed Justin Sourdif an eight-year, $50.8M contract — a stunning leap of faith for a 24-year-old rookie who exploded onto the scene with 35 points in 78 games last season. His late-season surge? 12 goals in 40 games, third on the team. He’s not just scoring — he’s elevating his team’s performance when he’s on the ice, even tying a franchise rookie record with a hat trick. A third-round pick by Florida, Sourdif already proved his NHL chops in the AHL and even helped them reach the Calder Cup Finals. This deal isn’t just about now — it’s about betting big on him becoming the next cornerstone of this Capitals’ future.
