  • The Fight for Reparation
    2023/05/05

Today's episode is about a conversation for Reparation and the fight for justice.

As we witness the historical change that is about to take place in Great Britain this weekend. “The crowning of King Charles lll” something, we have not witnessed in 70 years.

We remember, hundreds of thousands of Africans that were enslaved under centuries of British rule. This is actually viewed as an insult of history to many. Some would say it is time to move pass the monarchy, therefore it is also time we address the issue of an apology and reparation.

Jamaica is pushing to remove King Charles lll as head of state by 2025. (We ask, will the other Caribbean nations do the same?)

Meet Dorbrene O’Marde who is the chairperson of the Antigua and Barbuda Reparations Support Commission, the mandate being to: ‘organize activities to include education and awareness programmers concerning reparations for the enslavement of our ancestors…’

He is one of three vice-presidents of the CARICOM Reparations Commission, which represents fourteen islands of the Caribbean, maintaining a regional approach to the reparations claim on Great Britain and Europe for the crimes of the slave trade, slavery, and the genocide of indigenous African peoples and their Afro-Caribbean descendants.

Dorbrene is a graduate of The University of the West Indies and the University of Toronto. He is a playwright, director and producer of theatre and music. He is also a calypso writer and judge and a published author. He was awarded the Sunshine Award ‘Friends of the Arts’ for his commitment to creativity and his consistent calls for the crafting and development of cultural policies and programs.

  • Black Culture and the New Age
    2022/10/17

Today's episode is about reparations and an apology to the black community.

Meet Kareem Gordon who is a Black History Educator, Writer, Speaker and Youth Activist.  He joins me today to talk about the death of Queen Elizabeth II and the future of the British monarchy as it relates to reparations and an apology to the black community for the  many atrocities that were committed over time.

An example is money that was taken from the people working on the sugar plantations. Some Caribbean countries such as Jamaica are calling for change, such as becoming an independent nation.

We touched on King Charles III and his role in rectifying past wrongs as he begins his reign and we now embark on a new era.

This is the first of a 3-part series on black culture and the new age, available on all podcast platforms.
