• "One Weird Trick": The Soundbyte Transfer Method. Mix head and chest like the pros!
    2025/03/02

    Welcome back, Vo1ceHeads.

Like, Subscribe, Share! We're growing every week.

Here's something truly original from ‪@vo1cehead‬.

Today we're looking at an ephemeral "one weird trick". I call this one the 'Soundbyte Transfer Method". This will have you mixing your voice like your favorite singer in... no time at all!

Plus you get to watch these fun interviews with your favorite singers paying key attention like a detective for them to drop little hints as to how they do what they do, not in 'what' they say, but in 'how' they say it!

This one has everything: Reverence for the stars we love, plus a fun chance to sort of razz them a little bit. Everything we love here at Vo1ceHead.

And please be careful with this one if you start to get hoarse! As simple as it is, it's pretty advanced and really 'tricks' your vocalis into thickening up.

  • How to Springsteen: Breath Distortion in 2025
    2025/01/31

    Hey Vo1ceHeads!

First off- huge thanks for helping us blow past 275+ YouTube subscribers in a few months- very cool!

We take a deep dive into Springsteen in Houston, 1978's version of She's The One, and all the cool screams, yips, howls and cracks that makes early Boss' records so great and fun to listen to.

We touch on the old conundrum of if and when it's okay to 'copy' your favorite artists, and especially what our job is when we're in a tribute band. Also we get into the distinction between doing what our artist does, and sounding the way our artist sounds- sometimes those aren't the same thing!

What simple trick you can use to take your 'caricature' of an artist's sound and turn it into something much closer to the real thing....

And how the Boss navigates his vocal range in regards to false chord and true vocal chord distortions.

Buckle up, crack open a cold one and let's get cracking fellow vo1ce-heads!

We start with 'Why' - WHY Karaoke is a most worthy use of your time, energy and focus in 2024-2025.

The distinction between SITUATIONAL confidence and CORE confidence, and how Karaoke gives you the golden goose that is CORE confidence.

One simple singing technique to get you started

How to pick the best song

We do a deep dive into Jim Carrey's rendition of 'Somebody To Love' by Jefferson Airplane in the stellar comedy film "The Cable Guy"- How to win over the crowd by providing context, with musical history anecdotes as well as personal relevance.

What to do with your hands!

How to fill time and engage the crowd

A couple dance moves that ALWAYS work to engage the crowd.

Side note: For some reason my microphone did NOT pick up audio from the clip I showed-- HERE it is in its entirety for your enjoyment

  • Forget "Entrepreneur", young artist-- You're actually an Impresario!
    2024/11/06

    Sup Vo1ceHeads!

This episode is an ode to the Rolling Stone's original promoter, marketing specialist, pop psychologist, record producer, AKA Impresario extraordinare, Mr. Andrew Loog Oldham of Decca Records' fame.

It was Andrew who put me onto the concept of artists-in-business not being Entrepreneurs, but rather greater success is in thinking of themselves as Impresarios. I delve into this powerful distinction and how it can help inform you shape your career, whether you're a singer, songwriter, voice talent, promoter, producer, or any combination therein.

Enjoy, like, follow, comment, hit me up @vo1cehead!

  • Sing like Axl Frickin Rose
    2024/10/21

    Sup VO1ceHeads,

    Like, Subscribe, Share, Comment!

Today we're diving into a singer who is many, MANY folks' absolute favorite, the epitome of the late 80's hair metal glory mixed with punk and proto-grunge influences.

I feel like Axl got America ready for Cobain's sound-- gritty, over-the-top, but surprisingly controlled, we're gonna break down Axl Rose's exact vocal technique on Sweet Child of Mine to look at his tendencies and instincts as a vocal performer, to help you understand how he does what he does and help you incorporate it into your very own vocal techniques for whatever music you'd like to make!

I've been in a few tribute bands and that can be a great way to make money, make connections and expand your fanbase, so listen up, give these exercises a try, like, subscribe, comment, and stick around for more cutting-edge tips and tricks!

  • Get a sexier, more confident voice. Learn to sing like Sinatra and drop that larynx!
    2024/10/15

    Hey VoiceHeads,

Today we're going to go into the extreme value of confidence and power that comes with a subtle vocal adjustment to our larynx, aka 'voice box', aka Adam's Apple, aka the most important vocal controller in the human body!

As much as we love the high larynx vocal style of hard rock and funk, it is EQUALLY IMPORTANT if not way MORE important to De-Compress the vocal instrument, drop that larynx, and enjoy all of the confident, sexy, spacious side-effects.

What a perfect time to dive into the techniques of the one, the only, Mr. Frank Sinatra!

  • The genius of Queen's Freddie Mercury: VoiceHead breaks down Freddie's dynamics on It's A Hard Life
    2024/10/04

    Dear VoiceHeads,

Welcome to episode 3 in the series. Here we take a trip to Wembley Stadium (I beg your pardon? I don't even know what a green screen is!) and do a breakdown of Freddie Mercury's vocal technique on lesser-known Queen hit, "It's A Hard Life", track 3 off of album 'The Works'.

We talk Chest Voice, Head Voice, vocal rasp and distortion, but I try to keep it 'in the parlance of our times' as Maude Lebowski would say.

Audio quality's a little less than you've come to expect- apologies on that! Shower was running and my software plugin C-Vox left just a little static around the edges. Hopefully you stay riveted with my comedy and insights.
