    The first-ever recording of Vande Mataram, sung by Shri Narayan Chandra Mukherjee in Calcutta and recorded by Mr. Steven Carl Porter for the Nicole label. Pressed in London on discs made by the Edison Bell Company, it was issued under the "National Record" label as a Bengali Song titled "Bande Mataram Sujalam Sufalam."Notably, the label features the Union Jack and Royal Standard flags—a poignant detail on the earliest recording of India's song of freedom.

    This rare recording by Shri Vishnupant Pagnis, the celebrated actor and musician of Marathi cinema and theatre, stands as perhaps the boldest rendition of Vande Mataram. When only the first two stanzas of the song were permitted for public performance, Pagnis defiantly reversed the order—singing the last two stanzas first, followed by the first two.Composed in Raga Sarang, this version was labelled "Rashtrageet," marking a courageous artistic response to controversy surrounding India's national song.
