Residents in Kya Sands and neighboring communities (including Fourways, Bloubosrand, and Chartwell AH) are facing an urgent and dangerous health crisis: they are being forced to breathe toxic smoke from illegal dumpsite fires.

Burning materials like tyres, plastics, e-waste, and medical waste are releasing poisonous fumes known to cause asthma, respiratory illness, and cancer. Despite repeated complaints spanning years, the fires continue, leaving the community vulnerable.

We are joined by Chloe Castle, CEO of DearSA, to discuss this failure of local authority and the critical need for action.
