Welcome to Untamed Ember, the podcast where pleasure is your birthright, curiosity is your compass, and unlearning shame is part of the foreplay. Hosted by Dr. Misty, Untamed Ember brings real, unfiltered conversations about sex, relationships, kink, and polyamory into the open. Dr. Misty is an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist & Supervisor, clinically licensed in Washington State, Maryland, Virginia, and D.C., and a radically inclusive educator helping people reclaim pleasure without outdated “shoulds,” shame spirals, or performative nonsense. Here, we don’t do cold, clinical sex talk or vague, fluffy advice. We do real conversations about desire, intimacy, identity, and the glorious mess of being human in a body with a nervous system. This space is queer-affirming, body-positive, kink-aware, and free of the judgment that keeps so many people silent about what they really want. Here, we peel back layers of cultural conditioning, explore polyamory and kink dynamics, and get playfully honest about what turns us on in every sense. We also dig into nervous system-friendly ways to bring pleasure back into daily life, without guilt, pressure, or performance. If you are ready to reclaim pleasure, rewrite your internal scripts, and laugh a little while turning yourself on to your own life, you are in the right place. Welcome to Untamed Ember. Let’s get curious.© 2025 人間関係 個人的成功 社会科学 自己啓発 衛生・健康的な生活

  • Co-Regulation in Polyamory: Finding Your Own Ground Before You Find Each Other
    2026/09/10

Co-regulation is one of the ways human nervous systems find safety with each other. But what happens when one partner becomes your only reliable way back to steady ground?

In Season 2, Episode 7 of Untamed Ember, Dr. Misty explores co-regulation, self-regulation, and nervous system capacity inside polyamory and ethical non-monogamy. Non-monogamy doesn’t necessarily create dependence on a partner for regulation. Sometimes, it simply exposes a single-anchor system that was already there.

Through the story of Noor and Theo, we look at what happens when years of relying on one partner for regulation collide with changing availability, multiple relationships, and a nervous system that hasn’t had much opportunity to build its own internal toolkit.

Dr. Misty breaks down the difference between healthy interdependence and making one person responsible for your entire regulatory system, including the concept of “regulation debt,” the window of tolerance, and why support works differently when it functions as scaffolding rather than a permanent substitute for self-regulation.

You’ll also hear practical ways to build a wider and more sustainable regulation system, including developing your own nervous system toolkit, noticing when you’re choosing support versus automatically reaching for your only available regulator, widening support beyond romantic partners, talking honestly about capacity, and allowing different relationships to offer different kinds of support.

The goal isn’t to stop needing the people you love.

It’s to have enough ground of your own that co-regulation becomes something you share with each other rather than something one person has to carry for everyone else.

  • Why You Can't Force Compersion (The Nervous System Science of ENM)
    2026/08/20

Compersion has turned into a merit badge. Feel it, prove it, post about it, and if you don't feel it yet, apparently something's wrong with you.

Here's what the group chats and panel talks won't tell you: compersion isn't a switch you flip by wanting to be enlightened enough. It's a nervous system state, and nervous systems don't take orders from your ideology, no matter how good that ideology is.

In this episode, Dr. Misty breaks down what compersion actually is (and isn't), why an entire "compersion industrial complex" has rebuilt compulsory monogamy's scarcity logic and pointed it at your own emotional evolution, and what the polyvagal science says about why joy for your partner's other relationship literally cannot come online until your body registers safety first. You'll hear the real arc of a composite client who spent a year performing compersion she didn't feel, and what actually shifted it: not more effort, but more evidence of safety, delivered slowly, over months.

This episode also speaks directly to trauma histories and neurodivergent nervous systems, because a generic conversation about compersion tends to leave you out by default, and this show doesn't do that.

You'll leave with eight concrete, non-performative ways to build the conditions compersion actually needs to show up, on your nervous system's timeline, not the internet's.

  • Attachment Styles in Polyamory: Your Body Remembered
    2026/07/23

Knowing your attachment style doesn't fix anything. You can take the quiz, read every book, and announce yourself as "anxiously attached" at dinner, and the knowing still won't stop you from checking your phone four times during your partner's date. That's because your nervous system isn't reading the book. It's running a much older program.

In this episode, Dr. Misty breaks down what attachment theory actually says (and what pop psychology got wrong about it), why opening up a relationship doesn't create new attachment patterns but makes the ones you already had impossible to ignore, and why the common ENM advice to "work on your attachment before you open up" misunderstands how attachment actually heals. Spoiler: it heals in relationship, not before it.

Featuring a composite client case: Kai, eighteen months into polyamory, whose anxious attachment kept reading his partners' other relationships as abandonment, even though he could explain the neuroscience of his own triggers perfectly. His arc shows what regulatory capacity actually looks like when it's working. Not the absence of the old pattern, but a different relationship with it.

This episode covers attachment theory fundamentals (Bowlby and Ainsworth), why attachment is relational and context-dependent rather than a fixed trait, predictive processing and the nervous system, and what building new relational predictions actually requires: body-level experience, not insight alone.

Dr. Misty is a licensed counselor and AASECT Certified Sex Therapist bringing a trauma-informed, somatic lens to ethical non-monogamy, kink, and nervous system work.
