The Greek word for deacon means servant. And God calls everyone to be a servant in a certain sense. There we find that there is more blessing in giving than in getting. But in another sense, God has set an office in his church with the same name, an office with a purpose. This deacon office is one that serves God by serving him in such a way that the ministry of the Word, entrusted to the elders, is not neglected. Throughout Acts, growth of the church is used interchangeably with the Word of God growing. And since the one church represents the whole Christ, who both served and taught, both functions need to be in place to fully represent him. In this sermon, Pastor Thomas Myers answers three questions: What is a deacon, what are the qualificaitons of a deacon, and what are the benifits of being a deacon. Who can be my pastor? This is a question that every church member must take seriously. In 1 Timothy 2:15, Paul states, "But women will be saved through childbearing—if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety" (NIV). What is Paul doing here? It is tempting to get offended by this passage, but if you listen first, you will see that Paul is actually putting forth a high view of motherhood. Join us as Pastor Thomas walks through this difficult passage and explains that Paul is actually consoling the women of the church, elevating their role, and exhorting them to grow where God has planted them.

What is God role for men and women in the church? This is a hot topic in the church right now. Pastor Thomas takes this passage seriosly and encourages us to hold those we disagree with with respect. But before we can asnwer that question, we must understand that God has ordered the church to bring us closer to him and if we do not do his will his way we actually distract people from him. From the passage, pastor Thomas demonstrates that our worship can be a distraction when we (1) argue, when we (2) are vain, and when (3) we don't understand the order of God's house. In this order, we find the roles God has set in place for men and women and, here, we can seek to understand 1 Timothy 2:12.

Is God just for some people or for everyone? The answer to this question was the basis for the Apostle Paul's whole ministry. In this message, pastor Thomas Myers continues his series through 1 Timothy, demonstrating that because God is everyone's God and Christ is everyone's mediator, and there is no other God and no other mediator, what appears to be exclusive to the world is really what it looks like for God to include the whole world for salvation. For Paul, before his conversion to Christianity, he thought salvation was only for the Jewish, but when God converted Paul, he showed him that God is everyone's God, Christ is everyone's mediator, and the gospel is everyone's gospel.

What is the correct use of the law? How does the Gospel interact with it? In this sermon, he shows us that the aim of healthy doctrine is love; the correct application of the law is to show us our sins and point us to Christ; and therefore, the answer to the false teachers' use of the law (which they used to show that they were spiritual) was the gospel itself. Here, the sound doctrine of the gospel still uses the law, but not as a tool to become righteous; rather, it shows us how far we have fallen from God's righteous standard.
