After my pulmonary embolism, I kept thinking about getting “back” — back in shape, back to training, back to the athlete I was before.

But this week something occurred to me: maybe I’m not supposed to go back.

In this episode of Tri-ing 60 Plus, I talk about what training looks like now — shorter distances, lower intensity, more patience, and a lot more attention to how I feel. I’m swimming, biking, walking and running again, but recovery is teaching me that progress doesn’t always mean becoming who you used to be.

Sometimes it means finding out who you’re becoming.

I may not be out of the valley yet, but I’m coming out of it.

Just weeks before returning to triathlon, I was hospitalized with a life-threatening pulmonary embolism. In this episode, I share what happened, the warning signs I almost ignored, what it was like waking up in the ICU, and why this experience changed the direction of Tri-ing 60 Plus.
