I unpack the fears behind them, the symbols they carry, and how they reflect a deeper tension between who I’ve been and who I’m becoming. I also share a ritual walk I took in response — burying an old part of myself, planting something new, and confronting the truth that to grow, we often have to let something die. This is a reflection on fatherhood, fear, and staying true to yourself through big life changes.

I’m becoming a dad soon. I needed to talk to a friend who is becoming one around the same time, to work out how I feel. We talk about the influence of our own fathers, our thoughts about shaping the next generation of our families, and how we’ve changed as young men.
