  • Episode 226 War, Taxation, Regulation, and the Political Means
    2026/03/11

    Summary:

Trump certainly isn’t the first politician who campaigned hard on an issue and then did precisely the opposite once in office. It’s so regular an occurrence that people construct elaborate theories for why politicians and other government officials do the things they do. Tom suggests looking at all political issues through the prism created by Franz Oppenheimer’s classic book, The State, Its History and Development Viewed Sociologically.

  • Episode 225 The Iran War Multiverse
    2026/03/10

    Summary:

The Trump administration has maintained the U.S. military has been wildly successful in the opening days of the Iran War. It claims to have destroyed 80%-90% of Iran’s missile capabilities and is close to victory. The war’s critics paint precisely the opposite picture. They claim U.S. bases in the region have been largely destroyed or rendered inoperable and the U.S. is close to running out of defensive missiles. Which story is true? Both? Netiher? Tom tries to sort it out.

  • Episode 224 The bogus arguments for presidential war powers
    2026/03/06

    Summary:

President Trump has attacked Iran without a declaration of war by Congress or even a congressional authorization to use military force. Like its predecessors, the Trump administration justifies its actions with bogus claims about the declaration of war power, executive war powers, and the mythical “separate and coequal” branches of government created by the U.S. Constitution. Tom debunks all of the above using primary source material.

  • Episode 223 Iran Won't Go Quietly with Col. Douglas Macgregor
    2026/03/04

    Summary:

After another military buildup on Iran’s doorstep, the Trump administration suddenly changed the terms of the negotiation to an offer Iran could not accept. It then launched an air attack coordinated with Israel on Iran that the administration says could last weeks, although the objectives seem very open ended. And despite hoorahs all around from members of the administration and its supporters, Iran is refusing to go quietly into that good night. Colonel Douglas Macgregor joins Tom to discuss.

Guest Bio: Colonel Macgregor is widely known inside the U.S., Europe, Israel, Russia, China and Korea for both his leadership in the Battle of 73 Easting, the U.S. Army’s largest tank battle since World War II, and for his groundbreaking books on military transformation: Breaking the Phalanx and Transformation under Fire. He holds an MA in comparative politics and a PhD in international relations from the University of Virginia and has taught at West Point In 2020, the President appointed Macgregor to serve as Senior Advisor to the Secretary of Defense, a post he held until President Trump left office.

  • Episode 222 Trump's attack on Iran violates Congress' most important law and nobody cares
    2026/02/28

    Summary:

President Trump commenced a joint military action with Israel against Iran on Saturday, violating arguably the most important law ever passed by Congress, not to mention the Constitution itself. But as usual, nobody seems to care. And contrary to a popular misconception, the War Powers Resolutions does not allow the president to initiate military force without Congress for sixty days.

  • Episode 221 The State of the Union is Delusional
    2026/02/27

    Summary:

The State of the Union address has long been a self-congratulatory Roman spectacle, with the sitting president taking credit for things he either had nothing to do with or hadn’t occurred at all, along with making promises no government on Earth can possibly keep. But the 2026 SOTU marks the point where the empire officially became delusional.

    2026/02/20

    Summary:

Just as the Austro-Hungarian Empire did Serbia in 1914, Trump has made Iran an offer they can’t accept rather than one they can’t refuse. Tom breaks down the similarity between the situations today and in 1914, along with important differences.

  • Episode 219 Trump finally delivers for his supporters with climate rule change with Eric Peters
    2026/02/17

    Summary:

Trump squandered a good part of his first year in office focusing on foreign adventures that made a mockery of DOGE and delivered no benefit to American citizens. But on Thursday, Trump finally delivered a win for his supporters by rescinding an EPA rule designating carbon dioxide a danger to public health and welfare. This opens the door to massive deregulation in the automobile industry, among others. “Libertarian Car Guy” Eric Peters joins Tom to discuss.
