  • Ep.16 Men Too Suffer: No One Seems to Care (feat. Sebastian Williams & Aaron Yearwood)
    2024/06/26

This episode is in honor of Men's Mental Health Month!! If you're a man, I hope this episode makes you feel less alone or validates you in some way, big or small. I'm a huge advocate for mental health services, support groups, therapy... but if that all just feels too big right now start small. Read self help books from male authors, listen to POSITIVE mental health podcast (like one of my favorite Yitz Epstein's Narcissist Recovery Podcast) or listen to music that makes you feel more connected with yourself (Men's Mental Health Playlist - spotify).

If you are suicidal or in emotional distress, consider using the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. Call or text 988 or chat online to connect with a trained crisis counselor. The Lifeline provides 24-hour, confidential support to anyone in suicidal crisis or emotional distress. You can reach a specialized LGBTQI+ affirming counselor by texting “Q” to 988 or by calling 988 and pressing “3.” Learn more: 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (disponible en español )

If you are a veteran, consider using the Veterans Crisis Line. Call 988, then press “1.” You can also text 838255 or chat online . The Veterans Crisis Line is a 24-hour, confidential resource that connects veterans with a trained responder. The service is available to all veterans and those who support them, even if they are not registered with the VA or enrolled in VA healthcare.Learn more: Veterans Crisis Line (disponible en español )

    Podcasts to consider listening to:

    • On Purpose with Jay Shetty (one of my favs)
    • Not Quite Zen with Tony Hardman
    • Narcissist Recovery Podcast (one of my favs)
    • The Hardcore Self Help Podcast with Duff the Psych
    • All Black Men Need Therapy

If you are not a man (or in need of the resources listed above), well I hope we can do better about supporting the men in our lives because none of us can be our best selves without a community of people who love and care for us. I don't mean that in a self sacrifice type of way... I just genuinely believe we can all do a little better about letting men express themselves, find resources and not give into the toxic masculinity many of us subconsciously set the circumstances for. Let the men in your life CRY and express their emotions through vulnerability without judgment. Ask the men in your life what you can do to support them when the burdens of life feel too heavy to carry... they should not have to carry them alone.

Also, I’m a HUGE fan of music & would also suggest looking for playlists that help you blow stem, feel connected to others & to yourself!

In this episode, I talk about the acceptance of 'becoming'. Respecting the hard work I've put in to heal and moving on. Recognizing that by refusing to regress into old patterns. I'm making space for new possibilities...
I said none of that but that's how it feels!

  • Ep.14 Attached by Love: Examining Attachment Styles (feat. Sierra Fernandez)
    2024/04/26

In this episode, Sierra and I explore attachment theory! Discovering attachment styles can help you better understand how you relate to others and how to improve it. Sierra gives us a Psyc 101 lesson on each of the 4 attachment styles (secure, avoidant, anxious and fearful/ambivalent attachments) and talk about what forming a secure successful attachment could look like.

Finding out what your attachment style may be can be as easy as asking yourself 2 questions.
    (1) Do I have a positive or negative view of myself?
    (2) Do I have a positive or negative view of other people?

    • more deeply the question is asking who you can trust, who you depend on the most to produce positive outcomes or sooth you. During the interview I mentioned a visual I was using to track my conversation which can be found here - a model developed psychologists Kim Bartholomew & Leonard Horowitz!

I also bought up a curiosity about co-dependent relationships and their correlation with anxious attachment styles here is an article to learn more Co-Dependency and Attachment Style by Evolve Therapy.
