  • Ep 38: Against animal capitalism: The Art of Multispecies Resistance
    2026/11/01

At the crossroads of where art becomes anticapitalist resistance, and the political Left finally takes nonhuman animals seriously, you'll find Terike Haapoja, interdisciplinary visual artist, writer, researcher, and the first full-time visual artist to appear on TLAV.

Terike's work challenges the human-centered boundaries of Western thought, exploring animality, coexistence, loss, and the urgent need for multispecies solidarity. From representing Finland at the Venice Biennale to co-authoring the provocative [Against] Animal Capitalism manifesto and creating the Socialism for All Animals poster series, Terike imagines what a revolutionary labour movement looks like when we include our nonhuman comrades, with escapes, strikes, sabotage, and all.

We dive into her artistic practice, the power of utopian thinking, and why recognising animal labour as central to capitalism is a crucial first step for expanding our political power. Plus, we reflect on what it means to build activism on your own terms, using your unique talents, passions, and creativity rather than fitting into someone else's mould.

Terike is proof you don't need to be a traditional activist to make a profound impact. If you've ever wondered how art, ethics, and anticapitalist struggle intersect, this conversation is for you.

  • Ep.37: Beyond Appeasement: Finding our Ethical Spine
    2026/10/01

We need more vegans. We need strategies. But for these to stick, it's the context we must transform. That requires courage. In 1950, Leslie Cross, a Vegan Society founder, wrote veganism was a liberatory movement. This July, the European Court of Human Rights affirmed ethical veganism as a protected belief under Article 9 as not a lifestyle choice, but a serious moral conviction. Courage gets recognised.

Rooted in Cross's vision, in that ruling, and in the insights of Angela Davis and Antonio Gramsci, this is an invitation to build a movement which can stand, especially when the market says otherwise.

  • Ep 36: Why Vegans Don't: because it’s not about the food, it’s about the why
    2026/09/01

Join me for a profound conversation with Jordi Casamitjana, the ethical vegan activist who made legal history by securing the first worldwide ruling securing veganism as a protected belief.

A methodical thinker and lifelong advocate, Jordi joins me to discuss his new book, Why Vegans Don't: A philosophical guide to vegan behaviour — exploring the "why" behind vegan choices, blending zoology, history, and ethics.

We also delve into his personal journey, from growing up in Franco-era Catalonia to his landmark employment tribunal ordeal.

Tune in for a masterclass in clear thinking, moral courage, and discovering the freedom of saying "no."

And in part two, Matthew Gerstenberger, long-time music collaborator with TLAV, shares about his music on the debut of the new theme tune he composed for the show.
