After a surprise response to her message, X goes on a date with Bret who brings their once shared old English sheep dog, Rex. An enjoyable afternoon leads X to invite Bret into her home. It seems like paradise, until X receives an unexpected phone call about her latest project, and everything begins to unravel.

After Livewire survives and places in his first race, he's adament that he wants to continue. Despite not being pleased with his choice, Ferocity begins teaching him how to race, showing him all the tricks she knows so that he can get ahead. Things take a turn when Trailburn shows up, and Livewire takes an unnecessary risk to preserve his own and Ferocity's pride.

After his uninvited visit to Livewire and Ferocity, Trailburn meets up with his friends. Concerned about what Livewire's rapid improvement could mean for their future in the races, they begin making plans to get rid of their new opponent, permanently.
