Happy New Year! After a few months off,  Jacquie is back today to reflect on the pace of life pre-pandemic and the effects of the world grinding to a halt.

Is busy a "badge of honor" or a burden?  Many of us have become accustomed to the fast-paced, full-schedule life, but after being forced to slow down and simplify, do we still feel the same?

Today's episode offers us an invitation to reflect on how the world has changed in the last year, and if offered the opportunity to return to "normal", to examine whether or not we might make some changes.

Jacquie is the founder and owner of Evolve Education Consulting, an organization dedicated to helping parents and educators grow and bridge the gap between home and school.

  • 014 Racism, Privilege and The Power of Stories
    2020/06/08

As educators and parents, it would seem negligent and irresponsible not to talk about the events currently unfolding in our world, and yet these might be some of the most difficult topics to sit with, and unpack.

During the middle of an unprecedented global pandemic, we find ourselves navigating what will no doubt become a historical revolution.  Following recent high profile acts of racial brutality and injustice, the ensuing black lives matter campaigns, discussions of police brutality, privilege and cries for social justice, the conversations we have matter now more than ever. Who should be speaking out? Who's voices have not been heard? What is my role in all of this? What do I tell my kids?

It can be hard to know who should speak and what to say.

Join Jacquie as she shares her own experience of ignorance, shame and privilege and unravels the complicated nature of racism, and our role as parents in fighting social injustice.

  • 013 Have We Lost the Purpose of Education?
    2020/04/16

Today's episode is a going to challenge all of us to reflect on some of our deepest beliefs and assumptions about the purpose of education, for our kids as individuals, and also within a society, nation or our global community.  Host Jacquie Ganton urges all of us to use this time of change and crisis to take a step back, unpack our priorities and hold them up against the reality of what we see in classroom and school practice.  Her heartfelt and passionate assertion is that we need to know where we want to go before we plan how we will get there.
