This episode explores the nature of trauma, its impact on our lives, and the path to healing and joy. The core idea is that the "past following you around" is actually a form of self-separation—a subconscious attempt to outrun a wounded part of yourself.

    Understanding Trauma and Its Impact

Ayurvedic Doctor Jeannine Rashidi defines trauma as any event that overwhelms the mind-body system, causing the psyche to disconnect. The impact of a traumatic event is highly personal, influenced by an individual's innate nature and sensitivity. The severity and duration of the event, as well as the support received, also play a crucial role. A painful event leaves an impression that can create imbalances in our relationships with ourselves and others.

Ayu Dr. Jeannine describes a "Trauma Trigger Time Loop Experience," where a person gets stuck in a past event. When triggered, their emotional, mental, and physical responses are driven by that past experience rather than the present moment. This can lead to confusing and self-sabotaging behavior.

Dr. Alina Soto adds that healing involves confronting the "inconvenient truth" that a painful experience hurt you, a difficult but necessary step to reconnect with yourself. Breaking the Cycle of Pain Both doctors emphasize that the key to healing is to stop resisting the truth of your painful past and take back your power of choice.

Recognize Your Patterns: Dr. Alina shares their experience of building a tough exterior to outrun past emotional and psychological abuse, only to find they couldn't escape the parts of themselves they disliked. Similarly, Dr. Rashidi reflects on a lifetime of abusive relationships that mirrored her parents' behavior. The first step to breaking this cycle is to acknowledge that you are the common denominator in your life's recurring patterns.

Reclaim Your Power: Dr. Alina's clinical definition of trauma is "The I can't story." This belief—that we are powerless—is often rooted in a mindset that confuses discipline with punishment. The hard truth is that staying stuck is a choice. Healing is about realizing your power of choice isn't lost; it's waiting for you to use it.

Choose Wisely: Ayu Dr. Jeannine realized her mistake was waiting for others to change, which led to a series of dysfunctional relationships. She learned that a true act of grace is to leave a situation that isn't working for you. Dr. Alina adds that true healing involves finding a relationship where you can be yourself, without trying to change yourself or the other person. The simple, repeated question to ask yourself is, "What is the mistake I keep making?"

Through her book, Abundance Beyond Trauma, Ayu Dr. Jeannine offers a process called EDHIR® to help people release and digest these painful impressions. Both doctors attest that healing is possible and that the joy of moving beyond these experiences is worth the work.

    The Truth about Trauma

Intro: Jeannine Rashidi, Ayurvedic Doctor, Briefly explains how her EDHIR® process came to be, Exploring all the versions of “Jeannine” & Discovering what they needed so Healing could happen, the Integrating so she could Relate/Respond differently with self, others & the world.

2:10-6:35 Dr. Alina shares how they came into the trauma healing space 6 years before choosing the speacialty…during massage school…drawing a connection between the mind & the the body. This was their first “intuitive hit”. Appreciating the education they received from Bastyr University, their passionate studies continued, realizing that mental health goes beyond the mind and emerges from the nervous system.

6:45 Dr. Alina speaks on her specialty of Ketamine therapy & how you see things from a place of detachment vs feeling you are “in it”

8:56-12:10 Dr. Alina speaks on their past view of the psychedelic field being full of Spiritual Narcissism and they, themself were new as of the last 3 years to the psychedelic space. They felt, at the time, their impression was that those in the psychedelic field were being used as a way of spiritual bypassing and not being used as a true journey… Until they met Dr. Harvey who said Ketamine is not a Magic bullet. That was when their perspective changed on the subject of psychedelics.

12:14-14:40 Jeannine Rashidi, AD, asks Dr. Alina how their personal journey of healing trauma has shaped their practice. They create a safe landing space for others…

14:44-17:44 Jeannine Rashidi, AD shares that she was not always drawn to the Trauma specialty. She was drawn to psychology from a very early age due her parents behavior and her own thoughts and behaviors. Jeannine mentions her surprise to discover that her & Alina began as massage therapists and both had the same a-ha moment of the mind-body connection. Jeannine noticed her own trauma memories re-surfacing when she received massage which created even more curiosity of the mind body connection and the impressions that the body stores. When Jeannine Rashidi, AD began her massage practice, clients naturally spoke of their trauma and she questioned her ability to support them as she was just beginning her healing journey…..yet clients felt safe…she spent the next 22 years educated herself…created the EDHIR® process, went into Ayurvedic medicine & got her Doctor Level Certification from Kerala Ayurveda Academy, specializing in Sattvavajaya Chikitsa (Ayurvedic Psychiatry & Psychotherapy) & wrote Abundance Beyond Trauma. Dr. Alina shares their surprise at finding out Jeannine’s journey to specializing in trauma, live.

17:44-23:44 Jeannine, AD shares what drew her to Ayurvedic medicine…Her out of body experience where she passed out and saw herself having what seemed like a seizure….coming back into her body not being able to see, her hands and feet ice cold and an inner knowing to not move or be near people. The next morning, arriving at the emergency room all tests cleared and her symptoms diagnosed as a “spell”..... Half jokingly, Jeannine asks if she needs a Witch doctor for said Spell. That evening she falls asleep and has a lucid dream which was not unusual. That dream led her to Dr. Jayarajan Kodikannath at Kerala Ayurveda Academy- 10 min. From the home she has just moved into. Dr. Jay spent 90 min. With Jeannine and confidently gave her a plan to bring her to balance. This confidence created the curiosity to learn Ayurveda. 23:44 Jeannine, AD shares the most precious thing she received from her trauma healing journey…The Relationship She has with Herself! Because at the end of the day who are you spending the most time with? YOU. Dr. Alina agrees & shares that in order for healthy communities to thrive we must have a healthy relationship with self, then we will have healthy relationships with others. END: The duo share the heartfelt moment of the shared belief.
