A franchise record falls, a train falls off Altoona's famous curve, and the Squirrels walk it off against a friend of the show. Big week.

This week on The Tostado Section: The Nuthouse supporter section returns to CarMax Park and the children are DEMANDING baseballs. Will Bednar gets the call to Triple-A Sacramento, and the new boys (Trevor Cohen, Gavin Kilen, and Dakota Jordan) immediately start terrorizing the Eastern League. Richmond swipes a franchise-record 11 stolen bases in one game at Somerset (six in one inning!), Jack Payton hits a grand slam, Yunior Marte spins seven scoreless, and the bullpen goes full gummy worms.

Then the main event: after a 97-minute rain delay, Jose Astudillo ties it AND walks it off in his Double-A debut against former Squirrel and friend of the show Evan Gates. We were cheering for both teams and we feel weird about it.

Plus: a farewell to Rex (Nutsy's roommate, Richmond legend, Austin's gain), a theme song progress report (the guitar has officially moved upstairs), and the Nut Sack mailbag tackles pets with human names, Squirrels player pet-name puns, and the majesty of the Atlantic Union Bank Lounge.

Playoffs are five weeks away. Go nuts.

  • TTS: 5 YEAR ANNIVERSARY SPECTACULAR
    2026/07/18

Five years after The Tostado Section began as a Frankie Tostado fan page at a Richmond Flying Squirrels game, Frankie himself returns for a surprise anniversary call. The former Squirrels fan favorite checks in from the Cleburne Railroaders to talk American Association baseball, the Texas heat, his recent hot streak, and why he turned down an All-Star replacement spot to go home and build a crib.

Back in Richmond, Evan and Andy cover three weeks of Flying Squirrels baseball: Parks Harber’s power surge, Sabin Ceballos earning Dinger Daddy of the Week, Bo Davidson climbing the franchise home run list, Diego Velasquez walking off Akron in extra innings, Ryan Vanderhei becoming nearly unhittable, Will Bednar striking out the side, and the San Francisco Giants prospect movement reshaping the roster.

Also: the Tostado boys take over CarMax Park’s World Cup supporter section with face paint, chants, scarves and confetti cannons; review a bacon-wrapped footlong chili-cheese dog; debate whether naan or a baguette flies farther; choose walk-up songs; assemble a Richmond Flying Squirrels courtroom defense team; and answer another dangerously loaded Nutsack.

Five years. One surprise phone call. Three weeks of Double-A baseball. More hot dogs than judgment.

Welcome back to The Tostado Section: the official unofficial podcast of the Richmond Flying Squirrels.

  • CLINCH: SIGHTS ON SEPTEMBER
    2026/06/26

Jonah Cox skipped Triple-A and went straight from the Richmond Flying Squirrels to the San Francisco Giants, so obviously we had to talk about it.

This week on The Tostado Section, we cover Jonah getting the call to the big leagues, the Squirrels clinching a playoff spot for the first time in three years, Dennis Pelfrey’s 300th franchise win, walk-off wins, Bo Davidson going nuclear, Charlie Saccone staying hot, and the emotional rollercoaster of being way too invested in Double-A baseball.

We also get into Patrick Bailey bobblehead-related property damage, wrong turns to the studio, Andy’s Game of the Week, Dinger Daddy debates, specialty hot dogs at CarMax Park, and whether a bacon-wrapped footlong with chili, cheese, and crushed Flamin’ Hot Cheetos is secretly a Tostado Section tribute.

Baseball is good. The Squirrels are playoff bound. The hot dogs have gone too far.

Welcome back to The Tostado Section.
