  • Episode 16 - Life Outside Of The Women's Super League
    2026/10/16

Women's football is growing, but what about the clubs outside the spotlight?

In this episode of The Sideline Social, I'm looking beyond the Women's Super League to explore life further down the women's football pyramid. From the financial struggles and facilities that clubs face to the players balancing football with work, education and everyday life, there's so much more to the women's game than what we see at the top.

I'll also be discussing the importance of grassroots football, the challenges of attracting supporters, and what needs to happen to give clubs outside the top flight a better chance to grow.

Because if we want women's football to keep moving forward, we need to look at the whole game, not just the biggest clubs.

As always, there's plenty to discuss, and I'll be rounding things off with From the Stands!

🎙️ This is The Sideline Social — football beyond the final whistle.

  • Episode 15 - Why Does Football Stop? | The Story Behind the International Break
    2026/10/09

Why does football stop for the international break? 🌍⚽

In this episode of The Sideline Social, I’m taking a look at one of the strangest parts of the football calendar — the international break.

Why did international football become so important? When did international windows become part of the season? Who actually decides when football stops? And why do clubs have to release their players?

I’m also looking at the club vs country debate, why fans have such mixed feelings about international breaks, the ever-growing international fixture calendar, and what the break actually means for the players who are travelling, training and playing for their countries.

🌍 Why do we have international breaks?
⚽ Club or country — which matters more?
✈️ What does the break actually mean for players?
🤔 Could international football be organised differently?

Plus, your questions in From the Stands.

  • Episode 14 - What If? | Football Never Became A Business
    2026/10/02

What if football never became a business? ⚽💷

In this episode of The Sideline Social, I’m imagining a completely different footballing world — one without huge transfer fees, billionaire owners, massive TV deals, sponsorships or footballers becoming global brands.

Would clubs still be as successful? Would players stay with one club for longer? Would football feel more connected to its local communities? And without all the money, would we actually love the game more?

But it’s not as simple as saying money has ruined football. Modern football has also brought bigger stadiums, better facilities, improved academies, women’s football, global audiences and opportunities that simply wouldn’t have existed before.

So what would we actually lose if football never became a business?

And perhaps the bigger question is: how much of the original game is still left?
