Bovine congestive heart failure is a costly and growing challenge for the cattle feeding industry, greatly affecting performance and profitability. In a first-of-its-kind partnership, the American Shorthorn Association and Simplot Livestock collaborated to identify genetics associated with lower risk for BCHF. Early results are incredibly promising for the British breed, with the first 10,000 genotypes showing much lower risk for developing BCHF than other breeds and crosses Simplot Livestock has evaluated.
