 Human-relevant, innovation-driven and animal-free — New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) are reshaping how we develop drugs and medical devices. STEP4NAMs, a European project co-funded by Interreg North-West Europe, is at the heart of this transformation. The project focuses on the validation of NAMs to make them accessible, reliable and ready for regulatory and industrial uptake. Through sector-specific action plans, hands-on pilot studies and a dedicated training and support programme, we are paving the way for safer, faster and more ethical testing solutions. From organ-on-chip models and organoids to digital twins and bioprinted physiological models — our pilots showcase NAMs in real-world applications that are changing research and industry today.     In this episode of the STEP4NAMs Podcast, we explore how four pilot studies are bringing New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) into real-world application. From digital twins and organ-on-chip models to organoids and bench-top simulations, these pilots demonstrate how science can replace animal testing with human-relevant innovation. Each pilot lead explains what they’re working on, what’s being validated, and how companies and researchers can get involved. From October 27, 2025, to November 16, 2025, our open call for participation in the pilot studies from our project will be open. Listeners will gain insight into what participation entails and what is possible.
