  • When Goodwill Is Met With Hostility: What That Says About Us
    2025/07/13

In a time when community spirit should matter more than ever, I’ve found myself puzzled—and frankly saddened—by the sheer hostility directed toward a simple act of kindness.
Recently, I set up a GoFundMe for a business I’m not even affiliated with. No personal gain, no hidden agenda. Just a genuine desire to support a place I care deeply about while its insurance claim winds its way through the red tape. It’s a stopgap, nothing more—but one that could mean the world to the staff and guests who make it what it is.
🧡 You see, this isn’t just any venue. It’s my local. And beyond the food and drinks, it’s a place built on warmth, connection, and community. The kind of place where the staff treat you like family, not just another customer. That energy is rare, and it’s worth preserving.
But in stepped the keyboard warriors. Anonymous critics who seem to make it a mission to mock charitable efforts. Their attacks haven’t been rooted in facts, ethics, or concern for transparency—just bitterness. And it begs the question:

🗣️ What drives someone to attack charity?Perhaps it’s projection: anger at their own inertia, masked by tearing down those who act. Or maybe it’s fear—of being shown up by someone daring to care. Either way, it reveals a deep erosion of empathy in some corners of our society.
To troll someone for trying to help? That’s not skepticism. It’s cruelty disguised as critique.

🤝 Charity shouldn't need to be defendedWhen did we start treating generosity with suspicion? If a fundraiser is transparent, short-term, and aimed at helping people through a crisis, why the vitriol? Is it really so hard to believe that someone might act out of compassion rather than profit?
Communities thrive when we uplift one another, not when we cynically dismantle each other’s efforts. And I won’t apologise for standing up for what I believe in - specially when it’s driven by the desire to see good people supported in hard times.
So if you’re the sort of person who sees a charitable act and feels the urge to shred it instead of share it, maybe it’s time to ask yourself: What are you really fighting against—and why does kindness threaten you so much?

🗳️ Community Pulse Poll: What Drives the Backlash Against Kindness?

When someone sets up a fundraiser with no personal gain—just a desire to help—why do some people react with hostility?

Choose the option that best reflects your perspective:

    • 🧠 Projection — It's easier to criticize than to act, especially when people feel powerless.

    • 🕵️ Distrust — Charitable efforts are often met with suspicion due to past misuse of funds.

    • 🧊 Cynicism — Some individuals have grown detached from community values and empathy.

    • 🔥 Fear of Comparison — Acts of generosity highlight their own inaction.

  • It Started With A Whisper
    2025/07/12

This story is based on an actual event that took place in 2012. The names in this story have been changed.

It was a typical weekend visit to my friend Liam’s house, the kind where you catch up over coffee, trade stories, and laugh about old times. But as the evening wore on, Liam’s tone shifted. He leaned in, his voice dropping, and began telling me something that made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up.
